Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Carl considers himself lucky to have come of age during the formative years of ‘this thing we call house’ in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.  During that time, he was introduced to the power of dance music by the pioneering DJ collective Chosen Few DJs, which includes his childhood friend from elementary and high school, DJ Alan King.  Every school day, he and his classmates listened to music played on Alan’s ‘boom box’ in the school cafeteria and regularly attended parties featuring the Chosen Few (whose other original members are Wayne Williams, Tony Hatchett and Jesse Saunders, and now include Terry Hunter, Andre Hatchett, and Mike Dunn).   This was supplemented by listening to the short-lived Disco DAI radio broadcast and Herb Kent’s Punk Out weeknight radio show. Eventually, Carl’s obsession with the art form and the generosity of his parents landed him two belt-drive Technics turntables and a mixer.

DJ Carl Jenkins immediately joined the many Chicago teens clamoring to buy records and play music for kids (and a few adults) with an insatiable appetite for dance music that could not yet be consistently found on mainstream radio.  This joy of sharing music continued on through the early ‘80s during his college years at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. 

After graduating from college, the realities of adulthood (getting a job, paying bills and establishing a career) quickly pushed aside any time and money for deejaying…a prioritization that would continue through to the early 21st century.  During this time, Carl got his fix of soulful dance music by listening to his own record collection, recordings of old WBMX mixes, attending the occasional ‘old school’ dance party, and by attending the modest, but growing, Chosen Few Reunion picnic held behind the Museum of Science & Industry every summer (the picnic is now a premier event, attracting over 40,000 house heads from around the globe).

By the early 2000's, an explosion of new music being churned out by well-established and new producers, along with big-tent parties by the late Frankie Knuckles, caught Carl's attention.  Ultimately, the return of DJ Alan King to the house music scene served as a final motivation for Carl to begin collecting music and dust off his own skills. 

All mixes were recorded live in the home studio using two Pioneer CDJ 100s, or CDJ 850s, and a Pioneer DJM 600.  No digital computer editing or compression.

Michael Oberling is a jazz musician by trade. He began DJing while attending Columbia College Chicago, hosted a successful radio show on Souljack Digital and held a handful of residencies before relocating to California in 2014.

Michael started producing electronic music in early 2015 and soon released his first EP on DeepStitched Records in early 2016 under the former alias Michael Lee. Michael pulls his inspiration from jazz, specifically the era of Miles Davis, Coltrane, Chet Baker etc. His first introduction to electronic music was from Everything But The Girl's Walking Wounded album, which his mother purchased second-hand.

His love for deep, soulful music, is expressed through each new release, combining his trumpet playing, vocals and jazz musical knowledge. Michael makes music that everyone can listen, dance to, and connect with on all levels.

I've been DJing and producing since the mid 1990's when i wrote,produced and released five house and garage tracks under the name of West 1 and one speedgarage track in collaboration with two other producers under the name of BMW.
I've DJ'd in many London clubs including Legends,Pacha,Venom and The Ministry of Sound to name but a few and also had regular slots on London pirate radio stations including Select UK,Passion FM,Unknown FM,993.com and currently play on www.thesessionworldwide.com at 9pm UK time every Friday night,I've also played at clubs in Larnaca Cyprus.
My genre of DJing is Soulful House with an uptempo tip to it.
I try to take the listener on an uplifting journey evoking pleasant feelings through warm keyboard sounds and chords whilst trying to make the mixes sound as if the two tunes were as one!

Known as a “lawyer by day, DJ by night,” Alan King is one of the early members of the legendary Chicago-based DJ crew, the Chosen Few DJs (now consisting of Alan, Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Terry Hunter, Andre Hatchett and Mike Dunn).  In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, the Chosen Few DJs was a group of popular DJs from the city’s south side who played their unique brand of soulful dance music to huge crowds at Chicago night spots of historic importance in the birth and development of house music, including Sauer’s, First Impressions, the Playground and the Loft.  Alan’s influence on the house music landscape has been felt for more than 40 years, and he has been cited as an inspiration by countless DJs including legendary house music DJs and producers Frankie Knuckles, Steve "Silk" Hurley and Chip E.  Alan still regularly plays to rave reviews at clubs and events throughout Chicago, the United States and across the world.  The Chosen Few DJs also host the annual Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic each July 4th weekend in Chicago, one of the largest and longest running house music festival events in the world!
