WhaMP3 (test)

Tar Of (@Tar-Of) is the art pop project of NY-based artists Ariyan Basu and Ramin Rahni. With their techno side project as Googoosh Dolls (@googooshdolls), they throw the annual Technowruz parties in Brooklyn, which feature Iranian electronic acts, art/zines, video installations, and tea/sweets. Tar Of mixes elements of texture, electronics, and harmonies to create dense soupy pop, taking cues from everything ranging from dad pop to avant-garde media. They released their debut full-length, Instant Light, last year on Glass Orchard Records.

In this series, they explore the tradition of ruhowzi and theatrical performance in Iran, in particular tracing the legacy of the Shiraz Arts Festival and the burgeoning Iranian avant-garde movement of the 1970’s. Their playlist includes influential Iranian composers of this time, Western artists who informed/participated in the Shiraz festival, as well as several contemporary electronic arts.

تاراو (Tar Of) یک پروژه‌ی هنری پاپ از هنرمندان ساکن نیویورک، آرین باسو و رامین رهنی است. در پروژه‌ی فرعی Googoosh Dolls، آنها سالانه در بروکلین مهمانی‌های تکنو نوروزی برگزار می‌کنند، که شامل نمایش‌های الکترونیک ایرانی، کتابچه‌های هنری، ویدئو اینستالیشن و چای و شیرینی است. تاراو عناصر بافت، الکترونیک، و هارمونی را با هم ترکیب کرده و با استفاده از نشانه‌ها از زمینه‎‌های مختلف، از رسانه‌های محبوب گرفته تا رسانه‌های آوانگارد و پیشرو، ترکیبی فشرده از پاپ می‌سازد. آنها اولین آلبوم کامل خود را در سال گذشته با نام Instant Light توسط Glass Orchard Records منتشر کردند.

در این مجموعه [برای فالگوش]، آنها به کاوش در سنت روحوضی و اجرای تئاتر در ایران، به‌ویژه میراث به جا مانده از جشنواره هنرهای شیراز و جنبش نوظهور آوانگارد ایرانی در دهه ۵۰ میپردازند. پلی‌لیست آنها شامل آهنگسازان تاثیرگذار ایرانی مربوط به این دوره، هنرمندان غربی که در جشنواره ی شیراز شرکت کرده‌اند و همچنین چند هنرمند الکترونیکی معاصر است.

Iran Protests - Women Life Freedom. In Iran and around the world, momentous and incredibly moving protests for 40 days today, since 16 September 2022, have raised a movement labelled the "first feminist revolution". A reaction to the death of 22-year-old Kurd Mahsa Amini, the country and its diaspora, customarily locked in fear of repercussions, now speak out with a burgeoning political arts and culture movement and an activism unlike any before. With no identifiable leader to assassinate, women and children lead this revolution alongside their grandparents and striking oil, steel and other industry workers all over the country. What can listeners do to support the Women Life Freedom movement? We hear direct from Iranian voices and also from activist Steve Marsling who as a teenager from South East London worked towards the end of the bloody South African regime, with exemplary success.

'Systems for a Score' was produced during the eponymous solo exhibition by Fari Bradley and Chris Weaver during their artist's residency at Tashkeel, Dubai, UAE from Jan 7th 2015.

This track was recorded in 'A Model Studio', an installation - central to the exhibition - of a bespoke recording studio on public view inside the art gallery, with Emirati singer Jumairy. It evokes the walks taken at night due to extreme summer heat, in the residential parts of Dubai where buildings are just two stories high, and the streets often deserted.

For these sessions, UAE-based musicians, artists and school children improvised, interpreting traditional Emirati weave (Al Sadu) as graphic scores.
