Brighton-via-London duo Heritage return to Scuffed Recordings with brand new garage track ‘Chrome’, out 11th February 2022 on the Scuffed Bits singles series.

Heritage last appeared on Scuffed in 2020 with their ‘Revelation’ EP, and the title track has since become one of the defining tracks from the UK label. The EP saw wide-reaching support from the likes of Oneman, SHERELLE, Anz, and Moxie, and showed Heritage’s diverse production chops from upbeat breaks to moody, heads-down UK bass.

Now making their return to Scuffed, Heritage present ‘Chrome’, which leans heavily on the duo’s UK garage influences with a swung groove, pulsing bass, and undulating synths.

Scuffed Bits started in January 2022 as an outlet for digital-only singles, launching with ‘Purple Hilt’ from 95Bones and Scuffed co-founder Wager. Scuffed Bits will run alongside the main Scuffed Recordings schedule with new releases each month from artists on the Scuffed roster as well as friends of the label.

‘Chrome’ will be released on Scuffed on all digital platforms on 11th February 2022.

Gent1e $oul keeps evolving his dancefloor meta with "Block Printing '', the latest EP on Fast Castle. This DLC consists of 5 stripped down, effective takes on UK Bass, Dubstep, Grime and Baile - excellent for outright late game domination. The vinyl comes in hand-crafted sleeves produced in an ancient woodblock printing method on a manually operated, pre-industrialisation printing press.

Sonically, Gent1e $oul further distills his style by fusing different sonic spheres and bass music styles across “Block Printing''s chapters: Profoundly effective 4-bar grime meets transparent electro breaks on “Heated Shot”, with it’s hi-tek sounds forcing early reactions from the floor. “Siege Ram” is a techno x steppers crossover that packs the punch to keep your opponents stuck in the dark ages forever. “Untitled” channels baile cues into a rigid, progressive club cut, while the B-Side offers a UK Techno meets dembow deepness with “Fortified Walls”. Rounding off the proceedings, Rolex3k makes here exec. producer debut with a feature on “Turtle Ship”, a deeper-than-deep dub stepper.

"Block Printing"’s cover, conceived by Fast Castle’s visual mastermind Jonas, depicts an emblematic circle monograph hinting to prehistoric scenes and ancient legends. Special care went into the production of the DIY-printed record sleeves: Individually crafted on an ancient 1820s mechanical press and printed in a block printing-like technique from a laser cut wood negative, each of the edition-of-200 vinyl copies is a one-of-a-kind artifact to worship and rinse repeatedly.

Very special shout outs to Jonas from 200 Kilo on this one conceiving and realizing our most ambitious artwork project to date. Also, out to Scape Mastering for the sound optimization and RWDFWD and DnP for international distro services!

mono no aware (もののあわれ) is the first compilation to be released on PAN, collating unreleased ambient tracks from both new and existing PAN artists.

Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, the compilation moves through more traditional notions of what is called ’ambient’, to incorporating wider variations that fall under the term.

“Mono no aware”, ‘the pathos of things’, also translates as “an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera”. A term for the awareness of impermanence, or the transience of things. A meditation on mortality and life's transience, ephemerality heightens the appreciation of beauty and sensitivity to their passing. In investigating the passing of time, the boundaries between memory and hallucination become blurred; between fiction and reality. The movement of time transforms into an eternal present.

The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Molly Matalon and design by Bill Kouligas. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with Mount Analog for the LA Art Book Fair 2017, before going on general release.

Hessle Audio welcome Laksa to the label with three tracks of rowdy and forward-thinking dance music, following his last release on Timedance in September.

On the A-side, ‘Fire Kit’ sees the London-based producer and DJ approaching his sound from a different direction, with dancehall infused percussion offset by enveloping layers of sub-bass warmth at 95bpm.
The B side jacks up the tempo with a raucous energy as the temperature drops to below freezing. Basslines rumble in ‘Belly Brocka’ and ‘T’s Tent’ like an approaching storm and snares lash through the mix like ice picks, with the broken rhythmic energy driving the dance forward in 2021 and beyond.

Running the club night and monthly NTS show ‘re:lax’ with re:ni, Laksa has been consistently pushing bass mutations since his early EPs on Beneath’s Mistry label. A Bristol bass bobbler at heart, his hybrid sound has found a home on many respected labels such as Timedance, Ilian Tape and Whities, cementing his place amongst the latest UK talent.

There was a flickering light which danced and glimmered in the distance. It glowed a faint red in the dark night sky and cast a beacon of light outwards atop the ocean.

As the boat moved forwards through the waves it began to get closer and closer illuminating a path for which they could follow home. This was the signal on Baikal, it had been there for many years and had been the saving grace of many a lost soul. The red light began to pulse and flicker faster... 

Thodén is set to release his debut album on Electroménager, a record which is as themed around material built for the club as it is deconstructed ambience. This is as much a listening experience as it is a heads down moment for the late night dancer.
