Born and raised in the heart of the French Alps, and now residing in Paris, DJ Physical’s sound is one of a harsh romance. Perhaps it was the beauty and serenity of the snow-covered mountain tops and the ferocious nature of French techno moulding together that spawned his ‘Raw Poetry’ aesthetic; an emotive blend of dark and light that feels like it could belong in concert halls and theatres as well as underground sex clubs.

Following an outing on Lobster Theremin’s recent various artist fundraiser for Ukraine, and appearances on Rinse France and Running Out Of Steam, the Parisian local serves up five deadly cuts of brooding electro and techno.

‘Not So Human’ delivers the influence of trance on the contemporary techno soundscape, but doesn’t over-do it. Trance-licked, not dominated, the uncompromising cut of wave-driven techno is the perfect accompaniment for when you want to take things up a notch. ‘Sex Club’ maintains DJ Physicals’ fascination with ‘Raw Poetry’ - brimming with breaks-driven breakdowns, spine-tingling atmospherics and low-pressure basslines that highlight the variety of influence the emerging producer brings to the table.

Acid synth-lines and lively trance-inspo create an altogether lighter mood as we flip the record on ‘Mortal Dance’, before ‘Easy Dancer’ changes its tune altogether with a pounding cut of progressive, freaky electronica.

Closing the release is ‘Go Further’ - misty electro, Southern-trap samples and those distinctive, high-culture ambient interludes creating a sense of emotive mystery. A well-rounded release with plenty of left-turns, this is DJ Physical’s ‘Raw Poetry’ at its finest.

It's been a while since I put something like this up, but I think that makes it more refreshing. 

This is a live jam I came up with today. Something I am always trying to do with my music is contemplate some of my own feelings through the sound. I think in this genre of techno, trance, EDM, whatever you want to call it, it is so easy to slip into the pattern of only making tracks that exist purely in a functional, dance floor orientated sense, something I'm quite guilty of. I don't think there's anything wrong with this but I also think that electronic music can be such an amazing medium for more than this, for real expression of personal emotions through the sound. 

With this track I tried to soundtrack my own emotions currently. I'm not doing so great at the moment (is anyone?). The changing of the seasons, darker days, and my own struggle with mental health and physical illness has culminated into one big lump of general sadness. This is absolutely not helped by the evil force of social media and the endless scroll. I feel like my career is in the hands of the algorithm, this omnipotent presence that I'm devoting hours of each day to pleasing. I miss my friends, people I don't see so much lately, because all I can do is scroll. 

However, I'm hopeful that things will change, because they always do, and I hope this piece of music reflects this. Today was good because I spent the afternoon making this track instead of scrolling on Tik-Tok for hours. This is a good start, and I think there will be more and more days like this. 

Feel free to download, this is my gift to anyone else wrestling the endless scroll at the moment. I know it may seem insignificant but it's something :)

having the luxury of DJing full time means I end up with a lot of spare time, and I've definitely fallen victim to procrastination (see the endless scroll). 

so recently I've been trying to force some sort of busyness, and I'm really enjoying these ambient sessions at the moment. It's always a gamble, I either feel it or I don't, and when I don't that's ok, I just get up and go clean or something.

However generally when I do, it REALLY clicks, and that's how all these ambient pieces get made. Always done in a few hours, in one session, usually during periods of heightened emotions. 

Today I felt super sad. The changes in my life have really caught up with me recently. It only recently occurred to me that I never really got any time to process what was going on around me. I went into lockdown a child, was forced to become an adult in isolation, then the pandemic ended, I moved to manchester, became a touring DJ and got into a serious relationship. Maybe some people can handle this stuff fine, but as someone who's spent their whole life dealing with a pretty tough anxiety disorder it's finally caught up with me, and I'm only now processing wtf is going on, and it's a little bit scary. 

I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. But I can't help feeling a bit of nostalgia for simpler times, hence the track name. There was this really dreamy phase of my 19th year, where I'd just moved to Manchester, just met my girlfriend, had the most amazing friends around me, (I still do tbf) was so excited for what was to come, and looking back I really miss that feeling. I feel so burnt out these days. The hyper-socialisation of this scene has really taken it's toll on my head.

I'll figure it out, I usually do. In the mean time, you guys get to enjoy these ambient pieces inspired by my lack of knowing what the fuck is going on.
