Imagine growing up near Berlin, getting into dance music, going to Berghain for the first time and getting your mind blown by techno. Then, ten years later, you become a resident DJ at the fabled club. Not many people—any people?—can claim this story, but for Fadi Mohem, what would be so many DJs' dreams became a reality. After getting his 2017 debut 12-inch Reckless in the hands of all the right people in Berlin, Mohem established a bold, bouncy techno sound with releases on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, Ben Klock's Klockworks and FJAAK's SPANDAU20, pretty much the cream of the crop of modern techno.

Now, this year, he's becoming one of Berghain's newest residents, alongside other exciting names like Sedef Adasï and Naty Seres (and Lakuti upstairs at Panorama Bar). As heard on his recent collaborative with Ben Klock, Mohem has modern techno down to a science, thanks to a combination of reverence for the old-school and clever rhythmic touches, like the irresistible snare pattern on "Prefix." His RA Podcast sounds like what you might expect from a new generation of Berghain resident: aerodynamic, heavy and, honestly a little midtempo compared to a lot of other young techno DJs. It's the sound the club has made world-famous, with cuts from Reeko, Heiko Laux and Truncate, plus some special moments from aya, DJ Deeon and Petar Dundov. It takes a certain kind of DJ to get to this hallowed place, and Fadi Mohem deserves it.

Kasper Marrott isn’t your standard techno-Dane. He stuck his flag in the sand with breakthrough hit ‘Keflavik’ back in 2018 and has since continued to shake up dancefloors with his high-spirited and steady-growing anthology of beats, culminating in the release of his debut album ‘Full Circle’ early last year. The stargazing pads of that record, his trademark tropical synths and dash of Scandinavian trance resurface for Bassiani Podcast 139, an ethereal studio mix ready for blissed-out summer cruising along a sun-kissed Rainbow Road.

DJ/psychotherapist Vincent Neumann is back for his second Bassiani broadcast with as much spark as ever. Known for frequent techno sprints at his home away from home Distillery (as well as Berghain), his no-frills, achromatic sets are well documented. A little less known are his forays into a side of electronic music characterised by levity, jacking 90s stompers, italo hits and shuffling house. This one falls into the second category. Bassiani Podcast 143 is a chipper, catchy three-hour quest from the Unitas Multiplex label boss, recorded live at Horoom.

Newa is now one of BASEMENT’s first residents. Her BASEMENT mix kicks the series off with a bang. Her set exemplifies techno at its rushing, futuristic best. Churning with a fleet-footed defiance, these 65 minutes show her firing on all cylinders. Describing the club, she says: “The first time I entered it, it felt like home. I try to choose very special tracks to play in BASEMENT, because there are not many clubs where I feel at home. The intimacy of BASEMENT is unique.”

Byron Yeates has his fingerprints all over Berlin’s musical landscape. He’s the Irish wunderkind behind Radiant Love, an event series, label and collective with a loyal following that encourages free-thinking, self-expression and musical exploration in all its forms. He’s also resident at recently launched La Noche at OHM (Tresor’s ‘klein aber fein’ little brother) and community radio station Refuge Worldwide. The German capital’s oft-referenced hybrid of queer politics and music is the driving force here, and Yeates really puts his money where his mouth is. His marathon sets and bouncy, high-energy sounds run the gamut from trance to more beat-focused house and have landed him squarely behind the decks at covetable haunts like Panorama Bar, Fold London and Shelter Amsterdam. As a brief interlude from his growing number of bookings, Byron’s put together a sumptuous mix for Bassiani Podcast 164. This one’s sharp-witted and quick as a flash, rebellious breakbeats, carefree melodies and layered layered wizardry from the Radiant Records label-boss.

Last weekend Harmony joined forces with the hereandthere crew to put together a 17-hour-long warehouse party in Depo Lihovar, Prague. We are still glowing after this one, the crowd and music were really something special. 

As the sun started to creep through the windows onto the foggy dance floor, Harmony’s Yan united with hereandthere’s Pink Concrete for an epic 3-hour b2b. We knew this moment would be too good not to record, so we made sure to capture it so we could all relive this beautiful morning together. 

Pink Concrete’s techno rhythms matched perfectly with Yan’s groovy energy, and we have to say that listening to their set again takes us back to the feeling of joy we had from this collaboration.

This time we have a mix from our newest addition to our roster !
Antonina Karakostova, is a Bulgarian DJ and producer who had little interest in dance music or clubbing until she moved to Copenhagen back in 2014. Everything changed when a friend took her to her first rave in the city, in an old industrial building-turned-art studio. Several more raves and a few months later Karakostova by chance met Rune Bagge and a jokey request for DJing lessons led to him becoming her DJing mentor. Karakostova now regularly plays vinyl-only fast techno DJ sets with a focus on industrial and EBM influences (she claims she never got over her goth phase), mixed in with lush pads and acid basslines. She is also developing her sound as a producer, all under the name Vixen.

For the 40th edition of the Fast Forward Audio Series we present to you - NEWA

Coming from the jazz scene (and being a classically trained musician) Ana Kublashvili chose the artist name Newa when she progressed into the electronic music field. Newa started out as a DJ in 2012 in her hometown of Tbilisi, Georgia, quickly making a name for herself around in the city’s famous nightlife spots. She is a regular at the world-renowned Bassiani venue, a space that has given her a foundation to establish her skills on an international scale. Newa is also a recurring favourite at Ben Klock’s touring event-series Photon.

When it comes to Newa’s own productions it is a direct transition from her sound as a DJ; she represents a nuanced artist, building her musical presence on technical skill and honest feelings. Her authenticity extends into the studio. What you discover when listening to her work is a producer who expertly manages to measure all elements; deep bass lines and sunken melodies coexist in harmony. Whether the end result is techno or an experimental ambient piece, she manages to create music resonating with depth and reflection. Subspiele Records debuted Newa’s first own productions in 2012, since then she has gone on to release records on fine labels such as Klockworks, Semantica and the Bassiani in-house label. Since 2016 she also co-runs the diverse Icontrax imprint; here the focus lies on presenting undiscovered local talent from the flourishing Georgian techno scene.

Melinda Mohajer started Djing and throwing parties at an early age in her hometown of Gothenburg in Sweden. She has been collecting music and hitting the dance floors long enough to have developed a very versatile music taste. With her Persian roots, she knows how to combine her deep love for hard-hitting techno and acid grooves with sexy percussive rhythms. She recently played MESS and Mala Junta parties in Berlin, Endurance in CPH, and now this upcoming Saturday we have her on the lineup for Fast Forward - Back Into The Future rave in Copenhagen!
