Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series we present: Roma Ptashenko

From 2012 Roma has found his inspiration in the roots of rave culture — the 90s: Belgium with its accelerated-rough rhythms, melancholic trance and acid with its emotional edges, Britain and hard trance from Bonzai Records, as well as early releases on German Harthouse and rave revival from ТРИП label. 

His first DJ experiments took place accordingly: two old decks, CD disk records and endless mixing.

As a result, Roma's sets have become adjust compositions that belong to the dancefloor, but leave the space for real bangers. The big-bit track smoothly enters techno cage: Cari Lekebusch suddenly weaves with Nina Kravitz's sensual hits, and Prodigy remix drowns into progressive house of the duo Der Dritte Raum.

Over the past few years, his performances could be regularly seen both in the main Moscow techno-mecca Mutabor, and in St. Petersburg's Blank or the closed underground space of Raf25, in Tbilisi's Drama Bar and Yerevan's Poligraf.

Roma is a member of two iconic Moscow communities: the Volchok streetwear project, where he leads his series of podcasts and organizes parties. And the Popoff Kitchen music queer community. This year, the association was included in the list of the most influential projects that form youth culture.

Kasper Marott’s back with a second bout of electronic mischief for Bassiani Podcast 197. The Copenhagen based selector’s been around for many years and has only improved his knack for rhythms from one to the next, that and his singular aptitude for reading a room and playing to a crowd’s most primal instincts. His releases on Seilscheibenpfeiler, Kulør and his own imprint Axces every bit as catchy as his longer monologues behind decks. A little note on Axces: collective’s a closer descriptor, a group of friends and feedback loop designed to create all manner of wonderful sounds, visual artefacts and memorable parties that includes Marott’s buddies Alfredo92, Popmix, Søren Kinch, A. Waze and Martin Gilleshøj. Back to its co-founder: Marott’s a tried hand whose genre-bending flair is both austere and playful, straddling the binaries that often threaten to typecast aspiring DJs. His airy and saccharine disco a world away from the techno frenzy he manifests for this latest instalment. This is his closing set from the club floor back in December, nine hours of warped loops and general techno frenzy. Pulsating rave from this charismatic Danish phenom.

Next up comes a very special set recorded live at Bassiani/Horoom’s ten year anniversary in early October. Having made common cause with the club in its infancy, longtime resident Hamatsuki (Mamuka Tskhadaia) and Morevi Records key figure Skyra (Sandro Papaskiri) are a perfect vector for the club’s vision. These two homegrown talents are legends in their own right, and well versed in their musical skill, teaming up on occasion and getting people moving to the sound of their surging beats. The community built around them and their Georgian confrères has grown exponentially since casual beginnings on the ground in Tbilisi, and the timeless mark they’ve left on the soul of the city is testament to its creative spirit. From chilled-out releases to laid back sets, the duo have an innate feeling for the other that complements and sparks surprising new ideas, downtempo house that sounds as fresh today as it did back then. For Bassiani Podcast 235, the pair flex their well-trained muscle and deliver an hour of groovy and undulating sounds, unbent rhythms for the dancing class. Tbilisi energy to the letter. And here’s to another ten.

It’s back to the Norwegian woods with Mikkel Rev for Bassiani Podcast 259. Alongside Oprofessionel he moonlights as Omformer, and co-spearheads the Oslo-based UTE collective, famous for offering mystical forest raves, memorable club nights and their take-home recordings via digital/vinyl outlet UTE.REC (and sub-label Translusid). Trance is the main thrust, but an updated and savvy manifestation of it that’s more than suited to 2025, furnishing its breakneck rhythms with the experimental slant of its IDM and ambient forebears. It’s an elevated approach to a known genre, and perhaps at the bleeding edge of its future potential, keeping sound and woodland birthplace tethered crucial to its mission. As well as a number of EPs out on his homespun label, he’s apt to explore the fringes of his sound and export its singular voice across the map: intelligent trance with a strong emotional charge. This latest instalment keeps that promise with Mikkel on top form, an hour of cathartic beats recorded live at Bassiani: supernatural and stylish fare for sylvan nighttime gatherings.
