Mr Beatnik is a proud musical boffin. As well as being a writer able to talk at length about Tangerine Dream, the history of hip hop or the influence of George Duke, he is also boss of his own cult label Mythstery Records. On top of this he is a DJ that spans all sounds and scenes with real knowledge, and as a producer the last ten years have proven him to be a master of both classy house and direct techno. From the sumptuous strings of Synthetes to the elegant and emotive melodies of his Savannah EP via more recent forays into acid and techno, his work most often comes on Don’t Be Afraid and never repeats the same trick twice. Beatnik also hosts an NTS show that mixes up dusty disco, brand new music, spiritual jazz and more, and it is that sort of widescreen vision he displays for us on out latest podcast.

Our Next #Subsession podcast guest needs little introduction, as we welcome none other than- Jacob Herschel.

You probably remember his work with Rizumu, 52hz, and Philly's favorite summer weekly jam "Fountain Green". Jacob has played a pivotal part in Philadelphia dance music culture for more than a decade. Recently he relocated to Providence, Rhode Island where he has played part in hosting a DIY bi-weekly after hours parties with Symposium Records called "Beep & Klang". He has also been working throwing a monthly art gallery party called "Groove", helping further the scene in Providence.

Jacob is no stranger to subsurface as he joined us in celebrating 10 years of Sean Thomas's Drumsong party in February 2019 featuring special guest Recloose. We have special plans for Jacob to return to the City of Brotherly Love once the dust settles.
