We are thrilled to announce a very special podcast update for today - a start-to-finish live performance of Jóhann Jóhannsson's stunning Miners Hymns LP  featuring NYC's Wordless Music Orchestra. Presented by WYNC and ArtsWorld Financial Centre in January of this year, the performance saw a very rare combined screening of Bill Morrison's archive-footage documentary on the ill-fated mining communities of North East England, The Miners' Hymns and a live, large-scale brass ensemble arrangement of Jóhann's score of the same name - the same instrumentation with which the score was written and originally recorded.

Nowhere Left (Thomas Ragsdale Remix)

A collection of interviews, readings, lectures and monologues, and an attempt to soundtrack these personal expressions with musical pieces that reflect a sentiment or an emotional undercurrent I believe to be hidden somewhere within the words. I am interested in the stoic stubbornness in Sun Ra's lecture, the lamenting hope in Woody Allen's confessional, the underlying calmness in Kerouac's depiction of a raucous jazz scene. These are words spoken by important creative minds; this is an experiment in listening to the voice of the mind as much as the voice of the throat.

Thunder Tracks is the moniker of 25 year-old Oklahoma native Jake Scott, who names the likes of Devendra Banhart, Neil Young and Vashti Bunyan as inspirations. Recurring themes throughout his bedroom-recorded songs include: “Ghosts, light, a glow, colour, wildlife, and personification...” 

Here is the story behind Graffitti in Jake's own words:

"Graffiti is a song about me haunting my girl, except that it's not creepy and sad but beautiful and weird. It's about how things wouldn't change much if were a ghost. I would still mess with her, go on adventures, and get into a little trouble. In the second half I sing her side of the story. She knows I'm still around, getting into shenanigans, and in the end we let each other know that we are still with each other."
