Cela faisait un certain temps que nous n’avions pas sorti de dubstep sur Egregore Collective, et qui de mieux placé pour la tâche que le producteur Parisien Argo.

Tout droit venu de la banlieue et désormais installé dans la capitale, cela fait presque une décennie qu’Argo se taille une place de choix dans le paysage dubstep français, et en est désormais un des noms les plus reconnus. Les fans du genre seront sans doute familier·es de son travail très prolifique, reconnu par les labels les plus respectés de la scène tels que Sentry, Artikal ou encore le sous label de White Peach Yellow Flower.

Sur les talons de son album acclamé sur Encrypted Audio, il signe 4 tracks qui témoignent de sa versatilité quand il s’agit d’explorer le spectre entourant la bass musique à 140 bpm avec son approche de beatmaker, son univers sombre et mélancolique ponctué de samples de jeux vidéo. Pour compléter l’EP, Pardon transforme le puissant morceau titre ‘Coupable’ en un remix incisif, futuriste et grimey.

It’s been a while since we put out some proper dubstep on Egregore Collective, and who would be better suited to the task than parisian producer Argo.

Hailing from the banlieue of Paris and now currently based in the capital, Argo has spent almost a decade earning himself a reputation as one of the most recognizable French 140 producers. Fans of the genre should be familiar with his extremely prolific output, having signed on well respected labels such as Sentry, Artikal, or White Peach’s Yellow Flower sublabel.

Hot on the heels of his acclaimed LP on Encrypted Audio, he delivers a 4-tracker that showcases his versatility when it comes to exploring the spectrum around 140 bpm music with his trademark beatmaker approach, dark and moody cuts punctuated by video game samples. To complement the release, friend of the collective Pardon takes the heavy hitting title track ‘Coupable’ and turns it into a sharp, futuristic and grimey sounding remix.

Argo - Coupable

New French imprint Bait is a label focused on the cross over of two spheres: snare heavy bass-music and immersive mental techno. The outcome is technoïd-dubstep that is psychedelic, minimal, contemplative and at the same time calls for gun fingers and backspins.

The label's 4th release, 'In the Dark', is an EP by Ambit, an Irish producer and DJ whose dubstep and drum & bass releases have been energetic and dark, notably on Woozy label (Dublin).

This release is made up of 3 tracks, the title track 'In the Dark', a second track 'Run', and a remix of 'Run' by Parisian 140 boss Argo himself. 'In the Dark' lives up to its name, offering percussive halftime sounds with undulating basses, dark vocals and a generally abysmal ambience. Argo's remix flirts with techno and dubstep traits, creating an elegant yet chaotic jerky rhythm.

To celebrate the release, Bait is inviting the Woozy label for a collab party at Point Ephémère in Paris on January 27th 2024.

"Bait's 4th split EP is a crispy duo of tracks by Spanish artist Andrae Durden and Swiss artist Chewlie. While Andrae's 'Lasca' is a cold and elegant interpretation of technoïd- dubstep, breathing minimal darkness whilst catching a racing pace after the second drop, Chewlie's 'Denial' leans more towards 'OG' dubstep, almost flirting with deconstructed club with it's wonky and sort of warm character."

these 25 tracks were made anywhere from 2020 to 2025.
i always enjoyed listening to them as private tracks on here, but i never felt like they could be released.
i've finally decided to share a good chunk of those songs in honor of my 25th birthday.
also, there's a good bit more where this came from. and, yes, i'll drop those at some point too :)
