"The intro seems to manifest some form of incoming torment, slowly creating a growling and autonomous organism as the drop hits the chest. Christopher Yikes and Frenk Dublin's Slay Dem is characterised by heavily delayed textures that add a fair amount of detail to the production's resonance. 

"A subtle kick creates a pathway to destruction, supported by otherwise-minimal percussion and techy background noises. As second and final track of the duo’s FKOF EP, we can safely state that Slay Dem creates suitably murderous vibes to live up to its title!"

Mikrodot's Monastery paves the way into deep sub driven vibes with Tetrad and newcomer, Boneless carrying the vibe into darker and deeper territory. Repulsion's "VRR" takes the mood of the compilation into darker territory as it flips between breakbeats and minimalist influences. Newcomers Buex & No Compli balance floaty textures of atmosphere with jungle influenced breakbeats in their track "Ghosts Of Spice". While Inertia changes the direction of the album with his track "Nobody" featuring a massive, thick reverberating subline with a distorted Reese, it segues nicely into the album closing tracks by Split and NRB finishing out the album on a more aggressive and heavy feeling. This album explores the broad sound on After Dark Music."

"A resonating pad unfolds: a sweeping and scraping growl sneaks into the mix, hinting at complete destruction when the ‘distant cry’ becomes more apparent. The first 54 seconds of the mix are already flawless; the way its constructed is simply brilliant. Deafblind and Mesck are coming in with serious pressure – hold tight!  

  "The first drop is breath-taking: the lead is an constantly morphing organism, with a lot of emotion compressed into the background (thanks to the intense pad returning to the mix). The resonance of the reese/growl is beyond the level of normality: tearing into the listener's eardrums like no other. With the low-end, a perfect balanced kick-snare and the impeccable soundscapes, this is truly a collaboration to behold.   

"As the break commences, the fade out gives the elements some space to evolve into a higher state. The sweeping lead comes back in, slowly becoming more and more aggressive. The delay applied on certain elements really widens the stereo image, while the reverb on certain elements is also nicely applied. Although this was Deafblind & Mesck's first tune together, they outdid themselves with this one. An amazingly packed tune full of crisp percussion, mesmerising soundscapes and serious basslines."

"The soothing characteristic of the female vocal sample is accompanied by the male sample, leaving a mixed but powerfully mystical message on the listener. This seems to be one of the strengths of this top-notch production. The soundscapes, along with the freshly implemented reverb and the heavy snare, give this introduction a fluid shape - something formless.

"With a deep and impactful drop, Formless continues to create the illusion of deep and empty space, keeping the listener far from reality. The definition of ‘simplicity’ could easily be hidden far inside this roller, where near-solid drum patterns continue to roll over the listener. Vibrant low end adds much to this simply complex sound, as Formless reminds you he always delivers deep, next-level productions you can get lost in."

"Formless never ceases to amaze. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest FKOF EPs we’ve featured in our 3+ years of existence. The three tracks on the EP are diverse, but consistently maintain the Formless sound. Watch out for the Formless in 2013, this is his year."

"SYZ' 'Esoteric' opens with striking percussion and an immensely poppy kick that collectively hint at a destructive production. The growls give the listener a taste of what kind of mid-range they'll be dealing with deeper into the tune. SYZ sucks the listener right into the track with his flawless soundscapes; which are positioned in the deep and dark end of the spectrum.   

"While the drop pounds and echoes through the mind, SYZ’ excellent delay timing and sharp manoeuvres really give this track its unique character. He continues to amaze as the different percussive elements cross paths with the cutting mid-ranges, layered in a very intuitive way. Most of these patterns sound organic and are actually pretty unique – solid madness! 

"The dark and aggressive vibrations hit the listener's chest plate, announcing the stomping second drop. Hearing this tune on a rig for the first time confirmed our suspicions; serious bass weight on all fronts. One guaranteed to get the rewind in the dance!   “After hearing this on Distance’s Rinse FM show, we had to give this underrated producer and his mad tune a home here on FKOF. Getting this FKOF free download going was worth the wait – SYZ is definitely raising the bar!”
