"The long-awaited release from the Australian collaborators has been tried and tested across late-night dance floors and early morning sound systems around the globe. Spun by world-renown DJs and producers and collected like some rare, mysterious sample by long-time fans of The Operatives-founder Jerry Poon, known as JPS, and producer and furious drummer Hooves a.k.a. Johnny Clayton.

"A testament to both producers' years spent as dance floor devastating DJs, the influences across ‘Ritual EP’ swerve between the heavily assaulting bass more commonly found on a pirate radio station in the murky end of London, to the freeing swing of footwork in a warehouse party in Chicago, to the thundering drums that offer a flashback to a sweaty drum n’ bass rave in Melbourne. ‘Ghost Fad’ captures choppy beats and a warped vocal sample with a looming impending bass line kick. ‘Pariah’ soars with melting synths and menacing percussion, while ‘Gu’ leads with whirring police sirens and unnerving voodoo chant into a gritty experimentalism. Title track ‘The Ritual’ expands on the dark intensity of the EP, the slow-burning sound comparable a mysterious field recording of an extra-terrestrial tribe."

What's good GRA gang? Welcome back to our synodically recurring mix series, 'Styles'! For our eighth episode, we have an absolutely jam packed 32 minute Deep Dub mix from our very own Mr. Scissors featuring an astounding 29 tracks. Get ready to strap in for another heater of a mix as we explore the depth of variety and style within the 140 realm. 

"Deep dub, often simply referred to as dubstep initially, traces its roots to the vibrant music scene of Kingston, Jamaica in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It emerged from reggae as a distinctive style of remixing and manipulating existing recordings. It is typically characterized by its slower tempo, emphasis on sub bass and atmospheric soundscapes, and often darker, more brooding atmosphere. With it's emergence from the early dubstep scene, it is known for its minimalist approach, hypnotic beats, and spacious feel. At its inception, Burial emerged as a key figure, crafting atmospheric soundscapes that define deep dubstep. His ability to evoke emotions through ethereal melodies and haunting vocal samples set a high standard for the genre. Labels like Hyperdub became synonymous with this subgenre, curating a catalog of music that explores the depths of sonic possibility. In the modern landscape of deep dubstep, artists like Kaiju and labels like Deep Dark & Dangerous continue to expand the genre's horizons. Their productions delve into uncharted territories, exploring the darkest corners of bass music while maintaining a sense of elegance and restraint. Alongside them, artists like Sleeper and labels like Chestplate contribute to the ongoing evolution of deep dubstep, ensuring its enduring appeal among dedicated listeners."
