DES0 - Speedway EP (JT011)

Next to join the Jah-Tek catalogue, we have the privilege of introducing Manchester based DES0, who, after years spent absorbing the scene and refining his technique, delivers a debut EP packed with soundsystem pressure, raw aesthetics and modern drum flex.

The EP opens with ‘Shlam’, winding up with drawn-out, ghostly atmospherics before dropping into a dubstep anthem - fortified with 2006-era energy, recharged by drilling kicks and grunge-toned minimal synth lines.

Up next, ‘Scorth’ builds into a fiery grime pit, where eerie melodies weave through heavy 808 blasts, and silk like percussion drifts over haunting, spectral grime textures.

Closing the release, ‘Speedway’ stands as the EP’s powerhouse title track, driven by a relentless lead and thunderous sub-bass that tear through with fierce, rupturing force.

Speedway EP drops on the 1st of August exclusively via Bandcamp, followed by its full release on the 8th of August on all major platforms.

BLOCKLAB makes a commanding debut on Infernal Sounds with the Friendly Fire EP, unleashing their full production arsenal in a heavyweight, gritty, and refined package.

With previous releases on respected label White Peach, this move to Infernal Sounds feels like a natural and formidable next step in their upward trajectory.

The title track and collaboration with Thematic, 'Friendly Fire', throws you straight into the heat of conflict-blending raw intensity with anguish through a bass-conjuring mainframe and razor-sharp, tech-driven mid-range tones.

'Phuketsk' follows as the second cut on the EP, delivering a hard-hitting step and relentless stomp that highlights BLOCKLAB's razor-sharp production finesse and unyielding energy.

'Lonely Toy' takes a more spacious approach, layering toy box tones and rich atmospherics to build a whimsical yet haunting soundscape. As the track unfolds, it lunges into a forward-rolling wave of euphoria-only to pivot on the second drop, revealing a more subdued and shadowy dimension that demands full attention.

'Panic Attack' launches you headfirst into a frenzy of bass punches and sparring mid-range chops, delivering a chaotic yet controlled storm of sound. It's another example of BLOCKLAB's signature SFX evolution and precise progression, keeping the pressure high from start to finish.

'Dead Moon' closes out the EP with a stripped-back, hi-hat-snapping rhythm and undeniable swagger. It's a minimal yet confident finale that lets the groove breathe, ending the project on a cool and composed note.

Jungle Rootz debuts on Albion Collective with his Catharsis EP. Built to shake foundations, it becomes the second instalment of the Albion Gold series and will be available on an extremely limited vinyl run as well as digitally. In keeping with the hand-crafted Albion Gold ethos, each of the 100 records will be hand-painted, numbered, stamped and gold embossed.
All three tracks deliver their weight in gold, but Pigment’s relentless evolution certifies its A-side status. The rolling wave of plasmic pressure lifts further into the petrol-soaked sky with each pulse.
Title track, Catharsis, opens up the B-side with a body-shoving, eyebrow-snarling bassline layered with this EP’s trademark plasmic energy that unleashes melodies as well as it does murkage.
Finally, like the ghosts who wander from the mist of Japan’s mountains, Yurei gains its power from the intangible negative space it creates. Effortlessly stripped-back, Jungle Rootz breaks all expectations with the age-old adage, less is more.

"Great intro, immediately there's a bassline and great choirs present. The drum patterns before the drop build-up nicely, gradually you hear more elements appear! The sample is sick, and the drop is serious! All of a sudden, all these sick growls appear, great depth added by all the elements coming in. Everything is straight coherent, and falls into place at the right moment. Variations in drum patterns amaze me, but what can you say... You're talking about Digital Monk, dropping some serious knowledge. The break is mad vibes because the choirs go back to where they started and you hear this sick snare adding a lot of crispy-ness. Great build-up and you seriously don't want to wait until the second drop! Second drop is heavy, and continues to develop! I heard of Digital Monk before, heard some tracks I believe, but this one convinced me that we can expect some dark and deep material coming from this digital spiritual. Cheers!"
