Abstrakt Sonance - Restless Ft. Victory (Free Download)

Most people are shocked to learn that one of bass music’s hottest up-and-coming names hails from a small town, nestled in BC’s Okanagan region. That name of course, is Abstrakt Sonance and the town is Salmon Arm. His reputation as a no-holds-barred producer has won him the respect of dons like Mala, Youngsta, J:Kenzo, Joe Nice and Hatcha, and also a collaboration and music released on the latter’s label, Hatched. Plus releases on Truth’s fantastic, Deep, Dark & Dangerous imprint. In addition, he has become known as a top-tier Grime producer, who has worked with legends D Double E and Drapez & Irah. We have collaborated with Tyler in the past and have always been in awe of his production prowess, so we’re thrilled to bring him into the Aufect camp and let him flex his unique sound.

While Abstrakt Sonance is a name most typically associated with 140 bpm material, he is also adept in the upper-tempo ranges of Drum & Bass, and his superb drum editing skills are perfectly suited to his precisely composed arrangements and expertly filtered basslines in that context.

The title track “Misfits” eerily creeps into the ether and slides into a sub and percussive hook that infectiously bounces around the stereo field, while subtle but powerful snares keep the rhythm moving and punctuating the kick. “Centre” is a belter of classic Drum & Bass that utilizes sneakily filtered bass snips to give it it’s cheeky attitude, while the rolling drums keep the energy level high. “Run It” gives us a taste of Tyler’s Grime proclivities but in an 85 bpm context. He flexes his trademark percussive details to precise effect and bangs out with an 808 sub polyrhythm that will certainly freak out dancefloors. Lastly, “Busy” with collaborator and BFF spirit animal, Leo Zen, wraps things up with it’s tense, stepping rhythms and stabbing bass edits with sliding notched filters flying every-which way. Its a fun and crazy ride that leaves you wanting more, then says “fuck you” and leaves at 3:23. Love and kisses.

The newest heater from the Noctilux clan comes from West Coast producer, Konka. Well established in Vancouver, B.C. with previous releases on Aufect Recordings, Konka joins the Noctilux family with his self-professed “heavy beats and loud noises.” Influenced by artists such as Alix Perez, Noisia, and Josh Pan, Konka amalgamates those established sounds into a composite that is all his own. Hand of God is a journey through beats, imprinted by bass music’s many identities and hints of classic 1990s electronica. 

Hand of God with his original adaption of the EP’s namesake. “Hand of God” commences with an eerie cadence and vocal sample, that establishes the dark mood within, tying the whole release together. “Intriguing isn’t it, how our faces betray us?” It’s a haunting sample, perfectly interlinking Hand of God’s elements and closing the release. 

L Nix and Outsider’s version of the EP’s title track, “Hand of God” brings traditional dubstep wobble and tempo to the forefront. The deepest track on the release, the L Nix and Outsider remix of “Hand of God is a profound expedition into audio bliss. 

The original interpretation “Fakie” kicks off with a bang, establishing an addictive melody accompanied by footwork-style beats, completely worthy of headbanging. Quickly descending into a lowend expedition of bass, “Fakie” is a comprehensive sound system workout that will inevitably flex club and festival dancefloors. 

Then a remix is courtesy of Strange Thing from Victoria, B.C. His version of “Fakie” immediately initiates dark undertones, quickly picking up velocity. The track gives way to a funky, deep bass groove, the perfect accompaniment to good times and weighty sound. 

Konka ends with “Big Street,” invokes images of electronic music’s migration to the masses. If young Liam Howlett and Trent Reznor traveled to the future and made a tune with the big bass of today it would be reminiscent of “Big Street.” Its sound evokes images of live festival music videos of yore – big stages, big sound systems, and big crowds.

From Canada, Internal Frequency's first appearance on ISR with a 5 track EP dubbed 'Summit', ebbs and flows with heavy neuro influenced sounds mixed with the deep aspects of dubstep. This project will make you pull the bass face every time. Cracking with the title track 'Summit' dragging tuvan throat vocals underneath all the other components to buff the hard hitting pluck bass. With multiple melody elements connected to a dark atmosphere in 'S.B.S.F' and 'Portals', it's a cruise you'll never forget as it transitions to 'Cloak & Dagger'. The murky reeses and the knocking bass stabs sound design, shaping up this unique mechanical groove defining Internal Frequency's style. Closing up with the track 'Soothsayer', full of double time dynamic hihat patterns bouncing through your speakers, this one is my personal favorite. The dark atmosphere blends so well with the melancholic melody. The sound design all along the bridge is just pure m1nt! To keep it a Canadian product and to reach the next level, ISR veteran L Nix contributed to the project and delivered a very imposing and hefty remix. Hope you enjoy this EP as much as we do!
