Kaiju's first outing on treasured dubstep label Deep Medi was last year's 'Justice'/'Creeper' 12". Both tracks are sturdy, low-end weapons that you know will do serious damage on a soundsystem like the one in Mungo's Arena at Croatia's Outlook Festival. After this year’s Outlook Festival festivities, Untied is back to deliver another set of mind-boggling jams. For its sixth release, the Croatian record label has decided to put Drum & Bass legend Kodin’s five-track EP up for display, featuring a rude remix by Tectonic Recordings signee Nurve. The Eatbrain and Untied signee never fails to amaze. His ‘Soloist’ EP is the direct proof of this as always, through which he resumes his familiar course of action. With this strong 5-tracker to surface just after summer, Untied clearly sends out a signal for what’s upcoming during the dark, winter times. Make sure to wear a bulletproof vest for ‘UD006’ -you’ll need one…

With EP opener ‘Soloist’ the producer shows he’s in for havoc: a malicious siren counts down for impact, while a nurtured, egoistic growl builds in intensity. ‘OPB’ is a more complex halfstep affaire that contains a thugged-out vocal and layered, percussive action. ‘Tapija’ follows and has been going around dubstep for some time thanks to the early support from Wheel & Deal’s NType. The trippy, repetitive hi-hat syncs with a colossal snare, which indefinitely give rise to one dangerous, sought-after dubplate. The raging vibe in ‘Consonant’ will remind many of the old and new Macabre Unit Digital material. It destroys everything on its path thanks to the confident pace and ever consistent bassweight. Nurve finishes it all off by pushing his psychotic reinterpretation of ‘OPB’, which simply is an obliterator meant to red line and distort - and all in all adds up to forming the sharp edges of Kodin’s mean, harmful audio content.

Subquake Sounds Aki. has been making a wave recently with his mad sharp production skills and heavy array of dubplates which have been turning many heads in the scene. Recently he has had stellar releases on Coki’s ‘Don’t Get It Twisted’ imprint as well as ‘Substantial Audio’ and ‘Subquake Sound’. Here he brings four diverse tracks ranging from the straight up deep and dark anthem that is ‘Shimmer Dub’ to the old school 2006 vibes of Artefakt and Cesspool. "At FKOF Records, we split A&R efforts between the team - and FKOFd047 is a prime example of these efforts coming to fruition. Olaf (you may know him as @Korrupt or @signalfireofficial) hit Glasgow-based @Kami-O up on SoundCloud in June during one of his wanders through interesting soundscapes. Owen then emailed in a few demos, and we signed all of them. As you do. Owen's got a signature spin on the 140bpm sound and we've been pretty impressed with what we've heard so far, and the material that comprises FKOF047 continues that theme.

"Kami-O's FKOF Records debut opens with 'Saar', a woodwind-driven roller that eases us in with heavy grooves and crisp percussion before the sub drops. It's a banger. Next up, we've 'Seven'. It's deep, it's dark and it's awesome. Watch the atmospherics on this tune. A proper meditative experience! Track 3, 'Yali', exemplifies Kami-O's musical skill with its wicked, lowkey intro that crescendoes into something with a whole different vibe. It's an experience that improves with each revisit. We close out the EP with 'Meru', coming with more epic soundscapes and elements that ebb and flow just enough to leave you wanting more. Watch for the second drop. Ooft.

"It's been an odd year, you don't need us to tell you that, but it definitely feels like the music we've been able to sign and release has stepped up a level in terms of quality. The correlation may or may not be there, but we're not complaining about this aspect to 2020. Kami-O's FKOFd EP is a good demonstrator of what we mean. If subsequent material is as good as this release, the Glaswegian's destined for big things. Watch this space."
