This trio is built around the ideology of real-time composition. The intent of this group is to probe the concept of free improvisation, while maintaining a sense of balance and form. While the majority of the music is entirely improvised, the trio also tests this theory on jazz standards and original material as well. The current members of Collective Conscious are Tom Buckley (drums), Peter Gemus (bass) and Jack Finucane (sax).

Violist John Stulz lives and works in New York City. He spends his time composing, improvising, interpreting and teaching music. John is currently a teaching artist with Carnegie Hall's the Academy and a violist with Ensemble ACJW.
