Following their debut compilation release in 2020 which raised money for Brixton Soup Kitchen, London-based label Twin System return with another glorious compilation. Set to be released in three parts, ‘Tendrils (i)’ is a 7-track projects which spans varying moods and styles, but come together as one to represent the first corner of the sonic world this tape series will describe: ‘Tendrils Lurched Purple In The Slush’. 

Out today via digital and cassette, ‘Tendrils (i)’, includes tracks from Cleyra, Lamina, Tofudj, gi, Teqmun, Notte Infinita and co-founder Lewi Boome who’s track we’re premiering on the site today. ‘Softbody’ is a slow-motion chugger that sounds like a robot creeping back to life with soft bubbling synths conversing in the background. An otherworldly being.

Ahead of Chrismans 35 tracks of hybrid club music that tangle together gqom, trap, dancehall, hardstyle, tarraxo, warehouse techno and amapiano, Chrimsman drops a 1 hour mix of largely unreleased material from his archives and upcoming album. The Congolese producer, who's been heading up the Nyege/HK studios in Kampala for a while now, has with his last few releases highlighted his fascination with musical mutation, but more recently he's taken everything a few steps further, throwing the kitchen sink at club formulae without a lick of cynicism.

The Midday Mix - Lakatoi

A mix by TTB in response the exhibition Loose Knot Chorus, organised by Rafaela Pandolfini and Gigi De Lacy for Suite7a in Sydney/Eora land. The exhibition considers ideas of un-flattening the spiral; rejecting colonial ways of seeing and being with the world. 

The mix takes inspiration from manifestations of the spiral in water and on coastlines, and the idea of the voice - what it means to have a voice and to be able to speak up, literally and figuratively. Includes a short reading of the poem ‘Us’ by Zaffar Kunial, with  respect to the seeming impossibility but urgent necessity of what we might call solidarity.

Coiling around an ever widening (or tightening) curve, a spiral moves out from a central point. Sometimes segmented by repetitions of shape, sequence or movement, other times a continuous iterative pattern, a spiral gathers around itself, pulling all towards its centre.

SPA was founded in 2018 in Cologne and is focusing on club music with a global perspective. The label is run by Salon des Amateurs resident Phillip Jondo, France 98 aka DJ Brom and Friday Dunard who put in their different musical backgrounds and influences together, ranging from Baroque choir music to high definition experiences. For their monthly show on NTS they reflect on current moods, play the labels output and invite artists around them.
