Even though Mad Mats and Tooli runs a 'house label' we hope our various influences from other musical genres shine through the label's vast catalog. One strong influence on Local Talk is of course jazz, in any shape or form. So on our new '-ish' compilation series we thought we begin here...Jazz-ish.

The compilation is full of personal favorite jams from Local Talk. But some tracks stand out a little extra. Kai Alce's melodic remix of Munk is a personal fave and a true beauty, Kaidi Tatham's mix of Coflo is proper UK jazz-fusion boogie (ish.), Dean Zepherin's 'Blue Moon' is a classy jazz-funk number and Ron Trent's remix of Kyoto Jazz Sextet is as deep-jazz as it gets. Put em' all together and I hope you will hear what it's all about.JAZZ-ISH

@glenn-underground's The Strictly Jaz Unit project has been around in one form or another since the mid-90s, with the deep and soulful Chicago producer working on and off with fellow local hero @boo-williams on the project. With only sporadic appearances over recent years, SJU now returns with a full album in the form of 'The Tempest', the duo's first full-length working together under the name. It's been well worth the wait, oozing with gorgeous atmospheres and free-flowing synth solos. It's impossible to pick a favourite, but this is up there - a spacey, slow-burning excursion that blends Chicago with Detroit in wonderful manner. Mystical pads and shimmering chorb stabs sit atop squelchy bass and a cute, freewheeling lead melody, all combining for a super hypnotic journey.

Sublime stuff here from UK gear-head (by which we mean he loves hardware) NY*AK (@scotty5000)'s 'Afghan Jams' EP on @city-fly, which comes backed with remixes from the mighty Mark Hand and Ian Blevins. Thumping kicks and techno cymbal rides belie the sweet nature of this track, which centres around a glorious string sample and dreamy female soul vocals. Taut percussive rhythms fill in the gaps around pleasingly ploddy bass and urgent snare hits.
