Aqua Bassino delves Deeper in warm deep house territory. "Milano Bossa" is a smooth groove sparkling some fine piano lines atop. "Aqua" may start off somewhat aggressively, but quickly returns to a fine xylophone and piano-based groove. The heartfelt "Na Na's Waltz" waves on by gently, while the happy "Welcome Home" invites trumpet player Colin Steele to get the jazz party going. My favourite cut here is "Send My Love". Although it has a tight beat and a catchy bassline, this track has so much melancholy in it, it gives my little shivers each time I listen to it.

A classic 1997 techno-record really, though it stretches quite a bit further than just pure techno. It was a major leap forward for Dri whose former output comprised mostly of trancy stuff (of both the slow and fast variety). Tracks here vary from electro over full-blown techno to minimalistic ambient scapes. There's even a drone-track, 'Turmoil', which feels oddly out of place, but is a sign of Dri's ambition to release not just another techno record. Stéphane Dri succeeds on almost every level even though the record isn't exactly groundbreaking or anything. Most of this was already done (and even better) by Juan Atkins. Though to Dri's merit, hardly any of the tracks feel like filler (except for 'Blue072C' which feels much the same as the superior 'Red Dogs'). Standout-tracks are many and include the menacing electro-techno of 'Wasteland' (also released as a single with some additional remixes), the slow deep minimal techno of 'Wood' and the over-the-top freakiness of 'Red Dogs'. 'Voodoo' and 'Secrets' deserve good mention as well in my opinion as they bathe in a dark claustrophobic atmosphere. Dri promised a lot with this record, but to this day, he hasn't really delivered. 'Lost', the record's successor was more limited in scope and somewhat disappointing. Though you may feel I was a bit hard on Dri here, this really is an excellent record. You can't go wrong with this one if techno and/or electro's your thing. Great listening. 7.5/10

I really really love Nova Nova. This album/compilation/best-of/whatever you want is a real object. The unreleased tracks are surprising, Eternity is one of these piano-tracks the band knows how to do, Suddenly has a nice reversed melody and Marc Durif singing on it (finally!), and Marta is like a Bossa Nova tune. There is also this track everyone had probably forgotten, Pump! (Shake It Up) Minimal Matter, a house track very different of the others.
Beautiful, like the poems of Arthur Rimbaud (Mémoire) on the booklet...

Juantrip' is the alias for the french producer/musician Basil Compain who has been making music since the early 90's.
"Balmy Under the Stormy", issued under the F Communications label, was an excellent debut album with great, amazing tracks such as "Downward Rush of the Streams", "Electronic", "Fly to the Moon" and, of course, the single "Shadows", an obvious parody to the iconic guitar rock band of the same name.

Chronique Magic sur l'album!
Laurent Collat à été élevé au son de Manchester, celui du baggy et des débuts de la house, le coeur battant à l'unisson avec les rythmes froids et impeccables de New Order. Après Body And Soul, premier album, dans tous les sens du terme, pour le compte du label banlieusard Radikal Groove, Elegia n'a plus su choisir, lorgnant à la fois sur les chambrettes des amateurs d'"electronica intelligente" et les pistes de danse. Aujourd'hui, avec Sounds Within, Elegia laisse davantage vagabonder son esprit, pensant sûrement, à juste titre, que le reste suivra bien. Il faut dire qu'entre-temps Elegia a bien changé et sa musique aussi, depuis que la voix d'Esther y a rejoint les machines de Laurent, il y a deux ans. La sensualité des parties vocales épouse parfaitement la texture sonore et les rythmes, parfois glacés, de The Essence Of It ou de Basic, le remarquable premier single. Certes, les lignes mélodiques sont souvent basiques, mais les nappes maintiennent une cohésion parfaite avec les parties rythmiques et des constructions variées, issues du drum'n'bass pour Low, de l'électrofunk sur Hypno, ou même de la new wave (Wings). Spacieuses et aériennes, les ambiances imaginées par le duo s'avèrent particulièrement réconfortantes et chaleureuses, une bande son des plus judicieuses pour accompagner un automne forcément mélancolique. Cette élégie-là méritait bien pareil son et lumière.
