que hace un rato me fumé
el último que traía?

Salí para un estanquillo
que es de una comadre mía
para ver si me vendía
unos Raleigh con cerillos
le hablaron unos chiquillos
y cuando la despertaron
compungidos regresaron
porque la respuesta fue
dice que perdone usté
pero ayer se terminaron.

Me fui para el bar El Tarro,
de un amigo y compañero
y le dije al cantinero
despáchame unos cigarros.
¿De dónde te los agarro?
me dijo con voz sencilla
sigue buscando Costilla
a ver que hallas por ahí
ya hace un rato que vendí
la última cajetilla.

Por esos alrededores
busqué sin nada encontrar
y las ganas de fumar
eran cada vez mayores
me encontré con dos señores
que de un carro se bajaron
y cuando me saludaron
como cuates los creí
un cigarro les pedí
y de plano me lo negaron.

Enfilé rumbo a la esquina
un poco mal humorado
yo que siempre había pensado
que el vicio no me domina.
Llegué y le toqué a Martina
y un cigarro le pedí
pero nada conseguí
porque me dijo impaciente:
no vengas de impertinente
quisiera uno para mí.

Le puse el forro al sombrero
porque quería lloviznar
y me fui para otro bar
llamado el Centro Cañero.
Fue tan fuerte el aguacero
que llegué todo empapado.
Cuando creí haber logrado
aquel deseo en cuestión
grande fue mi decepción
porque ya estaba cerrado.

Me fui al Seguro Social
pensando que ahí la haría
me le acerqué al Policía
de la puerta principal
tras un saludo cordial
le dije a boca de jarro
regáleme usté un cigarro
que me está matando el frío
y me dijo amigo mío
no fumo, tengo catarro.

A una joven muy galana
que en la calle me encontré
la hora le pregunté:
las cuatro de la mañana.
Le di vuelta a la manzana
y unos amigos me hablaron
con atención escucharon
que un cigarro les pedía
y uno dijo: yo traía
pero, mira, se mojaron.

Seguí por aquel sendero
aferrado a mi porfía
llegué a una tortillería
y le dije al molinero
amigo, por favor quiero
me regale una colilla
y me contestó ¡Costilla!
