Formed in Downpatrick, N. Ireland by Tim Wheeler (vocals and guitar), Mark Hamilton (bass) and Rick McMurray (drums), Ash released their first studio album ‘1977’ and were then joined by Charlotte Hatherley (guitar) for a further 3 studio albums ‘Nu-Clear Sounds’, ‘Free All Angels’ and ‘Meltdown’. Charlotte left the band in 2006 and the band went on to record and release ‘Twilight of the Innocents’ before launching the innovative A-Z series which saw the band release a single every fortnight for a year. Bloc Party’s Russell Lissack has joined the band on stage since 2010.

October 2011 saw Ash play some special live shows to mark the release of 'The Best of Ash' and Charlotte performed with the band once more for the UK tour. The shows included the four piece playing the seminal “Free All Angels” Album in its entirety and a “Best Of” set.

A POTTED HISTORY OF 3D SHARK
 
Out of nowhere, 3D Shark’s debut single (You Only Did It Cos) Pete Major b/w Short Back and Sides makes an immediate impression and reaches #14 in the charts.

Follow-up Outing to Albania b/w (Theme from) 3D Shark  capitalises on this unexpected success and gives the band a first Top Ten hit when it goes to #5.

Sick Note b/w Joe Summer becomes huge and hits #1 as people can't get the chorus out of their heads. It eventually becomes the song they most hate as fans argue that the B-Side was better than the A-side. 

Appearances on television shows with Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross bring 3D Shark right into the mainstream. Now household names, there is talk of attempting to crack America.
 
Lacking any further recordings the band returns to the studio, but producer Frankie can't get them off his sofa to do some work, despite various threats, many of a sexual nature.  

Guitarist Major responds by storming out, but in his emotional state trips and falls down the stairs with his treasured Rickenbacker, resulting in a broken arm and bruised ego. The guitar is fine. 

The band must await his recovery before further recording and touring can take place.  Momentum is lost.  In the meantime singer Elliott, bassist Reilly-Stewart and drummer Hicks twiddle their thumbs and count their stacks of money.
 
After a hiatus of a year, and, despite a blaze of publicity, including a nude band photoshoot wearing only hoods, their next single Mystery Man b/w Scale of Haste falls short of it's intended mark reaching #4. This disappointment is something of a 3D watershed.

After a long time in the studio, a massively overproduced Sunshine Stride b/w This is Not Canada divides the critics. It creeps up to #9, but is  the last time the band will reach the top 10.

By the time My Low Key Approach b/w My Name is Brian Clough is released the tide has truly turned.  It stalls at #28.  In the background there are tales of band division and increased Franziskaner consumption.
 
They receive terrible press when they perform The Underpants Bomber (rather than the planned Sick Note) on The Late Late Show.  "Now, that was in terrible taste fellas", comments the host, "We would like to apologise to all our viewers...".  They are banned from RTE, but even this isn't enough to catapult them back into public favour.
 
Desperate to have another big hit they release an everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink Christmas single b/w a live version of Pete Major but by this time Reilly-Stewart is never in the studio, Major is busy with side projects, Hicks has gone off to "find him/herself" and Elliott is trying to launch a solo career. They go at each other in the press and split up before the single peaks at #59.
 
The money eventually runs out and memories of 3D Shark fade. "They could have been great, but, well, they weren't", being the consensus among fans.
 
Over the next decade the members of the band all have their ups and downs. Mostly downs.  

Major goes underground and there are rumours that he lives by a secret identity. Reilly-Stewart grows bitter and swears never to touch a bass again - no one cares. Hicks attempts to emulate Harry Judd by appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, but is thrown off the programme for punching Craig Revel-Horwood. Elliott's solo career is a disaster and he finally gives up chasing the dream, moves to the countryside and pursues a life of full-time fishing.
 
Twenty years on they agree to gather together one last time to perform a farewell concert in aid of Terri Hooley's retirement home fees. They meet the fans, sign the autographs, pose for the pictures, listen to Terry's speech and, then, disappear for good.

Contemporary Irish Trad Group

Athrú are a new, vibrant, award winning, contemporary Irish Trad group that draw upon influences from Belfast and beyond to deliver music that is a combination of powerful accompaniment fused with modern tunes and delicate harmonies that is dynamic, energetic and fresh. The band originated through sessions in Belfast in early 2014, and despite their short time together have won Derry's "An Re Nua 2014" Competition, and have began recording their début EP album to be released next year. Through several competitions and festival appearances such as “Fleadh Cheoil Na hÉireann”, "Pan Celtic Festival", "Club Sásta", and supporting the likes of Trad super-groups: MOXIE, KAN, Goitse, Buille and the Máirtín O'Connor Trio; they have begun to build a strong following with their great sets and infectious onstage character.

 The band includes Belfast musicians Niall McIlroy (whistles/flutes/guitars), Cormac Crummey (guitars/fiddle/banjo), Brendan Loughran (concertina). Kevin Meehan from Dublin (bodhran/percussion/whistles) and Conor Broderick from Galway (piano/rhodes).

RUNAWAY[GO] aren't any regular band. The dual vocal
talents of Dave Jackson and Fiona O'Kane 
bridge the gap between indie and pop with their ant
hemic pop melodies, vocal range and 
harmonies. 
 
Fiona is the songwriter for the as yet unsigned duo
from Belfast, Ireland who has been writing 
and recording her own music since she was 14. In a 
short space of time RUNAWAY[GO] have 
already worked with the likes of Jonathan Shakhovskoy(Beady Eye, U2, Stereophonics) and Geoff 
Pesche (Gorillaz, Dizzee Rascall) self-releasing six singles including ‘Alligator’ and ‘This is Real’ 
securing national airplay on Radio 1 in the UK. 

The debut album from RUNAWAY[GO] ‘Alive’ is due out
later this year however ahead of that the 
band have chosen the creative step of offering it first to those who have supported their music up 
to now by launching a Pledge Campaign in order to connect directly with their audience and offer 
something special which will not be available anywhere else. 

They have already had a taste of 
playing large scale venues supporting UK chart-toppers Bastille and Editors on sold out tours. 
With the album release approaching the band have reflected on their time together, especially 
since their first release 'Alligator'. 'All our ambitions with this band, of wanting to play all around 
the World, it all started with 'Alligator' but our 
sound has developed', says Dave Jackson. 'If I now 
listen to what we've just done, it sounds more like
I imagined it would. We're the band we wanted 
to be.

Originally coming from a couple of small rural villages in the Glens of Antrim and Belfast runabay are six musicians who through their passion for harmony and melody have been writing and recording since late December 2013.

Runabay are at the forefront of fresh, new music in Northern Ireland, a sound which has undeniably been shaped by the beautiful coastline which surrounds the Glens of Antrim and is felt through the swooping melodies and poignant lyrics. The band produce a mature sound that leaves the listener hanging on the intricate guitar riffs, mellow three part harmonies and haunting cello.

Notable highlights are national airplay on BBC 6Music with both Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq's shows playing singles, airtime on RTE 2FM with Dan Hegarty, Today Fm with Louise Duffy, several plays on Amazing Radio with Charlie Ashcroft, Katheryn Tickell and Jim Gellatly. Massive local support from several shows on Radio Ulster (too many to thank there). Not forgetting KCLR Roddie Cleerie and Martin Bridgeman.

Spotify playlists have also picked up on the music coming from the Glens of Antrim with songs having success on a few high profile playlists like; Best of Indie Folk 2016, Alternative 2017 New Music Friday, Fresh Finds: Six Strings, Best of Ruby Sessions 2016 and Clans .: Vibes :.
