Greyscale’s Mood Series hits its 146th edition with the return of Italian producer Dib, delivering Quadrans 002, his first release for the label since 2020’s Quadrans 001.1. Known for precision and detail, Dib again demonstrates his knack for meticulously crafted dub techno. 'Opener Quadrans 002.1' eases in with hazy, flowing chords that evoke the gentle distortion of analog radio interference. Beneath, a tight rhythmic framework features a punchy kick and crisp snare that keeps things concise while leaving space for the atmosphere to breathe. 'Quadrans 002.2' ups the tempo subtly, pairing taut beats and clever chord delays with a sense of unease via an eerie melodic thread. This tension eventually dissolves, allowing the groove to stretch out in pure techno flow. On 'Quadrans 002.3', Dib’s chord work turns intricate and hypnotic, pulling focus while the rhythm and textural flow stay in a supportive role. It’s a study in “selective hearing”, encouraging the listener to sink deep into its layered motion. Closing cut 'Quadrans 002.4' arrives with the most assertive chords of the set, each note echoing into the mix alongside metallic percussive reflections. The interplay between the warm harmonic swells and sharp tonal accents gives it a yin-yang energy, a fitting and memorable conclusion. With Quadrans 002, Dib delivers a finesse to these detailed tracks that sink in deep. It’s both a strong continuation of his Quadrans concept and another fine chapter in Greyscale’s global dub techno chronicle.

We're thrilled to welcome Joseph Valentino aka Neglect as our special guest this last weekend of October. Get ready for a sonic journey that swings from energetic highs to moody lows, a mix that takes you on a ride through different vibes.

Neglect is a southern california born, southern arizona based visual artist and musician whose ambient compositions focus on the sparse terrain of living in the desert and how sound translates an environment of wide spaces and harsh extremes. He has been recording and releasing music since 2005 and started mixing records in 1995. His work has appeared on the labels Boomarm Nation, Harmonic Ooze, Adventurous Music, and Shimmering Moods, aside from his own
digital imprint, Neglectsound.

About the mix he said:
"I think of a mix like creating a photo album, a collection of moments in time. Where i was when i heard this song, what year it was, the sense of a season
when i recorded the music, what was happening at that time in my life? Everything begins with one track and then the map starts to take shape. For this episode in particular, it was the sense of spirit in the Millsart track ' Yantra.' I can remember where i was living and the mood of the time when i bought this record in a shop, a feeling of that i can only describe as ancient hope, a timeless desire for discovery. I hope as you listen to this, you will hear a sound, a rhythmic loop, or a chord change that makes something inside you connect with that ancient hope, the curiosity for change."

When Stephen Hitchell released The Seduction of Silence in 2009 under his Intrusion alias, the double-CD immediately established itself as a landmark in the dub techno continuum. Across deep, glacial chords, cavernous bass and hypnotic atmospheres, Hitchell expanded the Berlin/Detroit lineage into something spiritual and introspective – a meditative art form rooted in emotion, texture and stillness rather than club-function alone.

Sixteen years on, The Seduction of Silence returns in its most definitive form, with both Part 1 and Part 2 now finally available on vinyl for the first time. Remastered and cut by Stefan Betke (POLE), the records unlock new depth and dimensionality, offering a fully immersive experience for both longstanding admirers and new listeners.

Part 1 traces the genesis of Intrusion, sparked by Hitchell’s rediscovery of a Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 sampler containing fragments of his ’90s experiments. Revived during a period of transition – long hours in record distribution, a move to Chicago’s lakeside, impending fatherhood – those sounds became the foundation for weighty yet introspective dub, heard vividly in Montego Bay and Intrusion Dub.

Part 2 carries a more expansive, improvisational feel, influenced by the late Phillip C. Hertz, Hitchell’s colleague at Crosstalk Distribution. Recorded through live jams and experimental sessions, this chapter drifts into deeper ambient-dub territory, paying tribute to collaboration, community and the fluidity of sound.

Together, both parts form a deeply personal document of life, art and devotion to sound. Alongside this feature, Hitchell shares a live recording from his New York debut at Public Records in July 2025, hosted by Zen/Echo – an intimate Intrusion performance in full analog drift.

After releasing four EPs over the last year in his story of a traveller’s journey to enlightenment series, Bryan Chapman delivers his debut album, ‘7 Shadows And Iron Lungs’ on his own label, Monotony.

Living in seclusion in southern England, Bryan Chapman is part of the conveyor of talent that hails from this ever growing, under current of modern techno found on the shores of the south coast. Now an established name amongst the new breed of producers breaking through, Bryan has earned a reputation for making no-nonsense, heavy-weight tracks that have seen his music supported by taste-makers across the techno scene including Luke Slater, Adam Beyer, Slam, Laurent Garnier, Chris Liebing and many more.  

He has previously released on labels like Cari Lekebusch’s H-Productions, Alan Fitzpatrick’s 8 Sided Dice, Dustin Zahn’s Enemy, Joachim Spieth’s Affin and Butch’s Bouq. Now with his own label, Bryan’s aim for Monotony is “to create psychedelic and monotonous techno”, which should not be seen as self-deprecating. Instead think stripped-down, hypnotic, repetitive, linear, dark techno loops that intertwine around each other with subtle yet devastating effects, creating a style of techno reminiscent of times long since passed merged with modern forward thinking electronics.

The concept of ‘7 Shadows and Iron Lungs’ is about finding serenity in the acceptance of death. “It’s better to be a shadow that fades in the wind than live in an iron lung prolonging the inevitable”. Tracks like the deeply hypnotic and shifting ‘Cylon’ take us to a place where Jaki Liebezeit plays electronic modal slo-mo drum workouts from the heavens above whilst ‘Carcosa’ brings a subtle electro-swing to Bryan’s deep and evolving motorik groove. ‘Black’ perhaps the album’s cornerstone, anchors a near 15 minute opus of exquisite shuffling, psychedelic techno into a dystopian, atonal vision of ‘E2-E4’ (Jóhann Jóhannsson’s binned vision of Bladerunner 2049).

The aptly named track ‘7’ builds into a desolate soundscape of brooding menace whilst the far more direct techno pulse of ‘I Don’t Know What My Mother’s Feet Look Like’ is, considering the title, the albums most straight-forward club workout. Finally ‘Embers’ builds into a towering wall of electronic sound before the album’s closing track, ‘Dead Shadows’ embraces the cold kiss of death with ephemeral recognition.

Fusing future sound design aesthetics with minimalist techno principles, ‘7 Shadows & Iron Lungs’ is as an accomplished debut techno album you are likely to hear this year.
