After having released on AEON and Roam Recordings, Franz Matthews returns home on his HIFI/LOFI imprint by releasing his Symmetric Dance EP, showing us once more how the producer likes to play with the codes of House, Space Disco, and Indie Dance by intertwining them and turning them into his very own secret sauce.

The trip starts with the eponymous Symmetric Dance, where a faster-than-usual Franz brings us into the groove with a deep bass line supporting the words of a sort of musical guru, leading you (yes, you.) progressively into the ecstatic moment of the Symmetric Dance, here materialised by a catchy house-y piano part that later exploses into a festival of notes before coming back to an infamous rhythm that we dare you not to dance to. Does it feel like summer ? Yes, probably.

Moving on to Zero Gravity, we step into a fast-paced ride of cosmic synth escapades that take our vehicle on a full throttle run until it has left the launching ramp and floats into mid-air, not really knowing when or where it will land. But, just as you finished catching your breath again, you land back on earth, full speed, and navigate in the middle of another asteroid galaxy tour, taking a few Machs along the way until it is time for the next bump. Will you land back on your feet this time ? Yes, probably.

Closing the cosmic ride, the slower ‘Herbie Crashed The Party’ is a progressive burner constructed around a centre ARP2600 synth line evolving throughout the whole track and being joined by funky guitars, heady synth ornementations, and a stabby brass ensemble that opens up the door to what seems to be the ghost of an unusual guest as the party goes on, which makes us wonder if it was a good idea to let Herbie Hancock in at the party ? And again we will answer : Yes, probably.

Mixel és un DJ francès, instal·lat a Barcelona des del 2006. A finals dels 80 va començar a barrejar, amb 20 anys, New Wave, High NRJ, Disc, Funk... Començant en festes d'estudiants, farà els primers passos en discoteques com Big Ben del sud de França. L'arribada del House, poc després, segella definitivament el seu amor i passió per la música electrònica. L'explosió del Techno i les raves l'allunyaran de les discoteques. L'underground es converteix en el seu pati d'esbarjo, barrejarà (Goa, Trance-hard, trance) a partir del 1993. El 1996 després d'acabar els estudis, mentre es pregunta per un possible futur professional com a DJ, les autoritats prohibeixen les raves i una tragèdia canvia els seus plans. Durant una mudança li van robar tota la col·lecció de vinils, CD, tocadiscos i tot el seu equip de música. Després va decidir fer un gir professional forçat però es va mantenir en contacte amb l'escena electro que evolucionava cap als clubs. El 2006 es va instal·lar a Barcelona i va actuar a bars, però va continuar a l'underground ia festes privades cada vegada més escasses on podia tocar llargs sets. Avui dia freqüenta regularment clubs com freedonia i també com a membre actiu d'Ameba (Associació d'Electrònica de Barcelona). A les seves seleccions MIXeL afavoreix l'energia, les melodies, l'originalitat i pot tocar en estils que van des de House, Deep, Progressive, Nu Disco, Dark Disco-Indie fins a Techno i Deep Trance. Després de 35 anys darrere dels plats, MIXeL no és un influencer, sinó part de la generació de DJs que saben com portar-te a un viatge musical.

Mixel is a French DJ, based in Barcelona since 2006. At the end of the 80s, at the age of 20, he started mixing New Wave, High NRJ, Disco, Funk... Starting out at student parties, he took his first steps in clubs such as the Big Ben in the south of France. The arrival of House, shortly after, sealed his love and passion for electronic music. The explosion of Techno and raves would take him away from clubs. The underground became his playground, and he would mix (Goa, Trance-hard, trance) from 1993 onwards. In 1996, after finishing his studies, while he was wondering about a possible professional future as a DJ, the authorities banned raves and a tragedy changed his plans. During a move, his entire collection of vinyl, CDs, turntables and all his music equipment were stolen. He then decided to take a forced professional turn but kept in touch with the electro scene that was evolving towards clubs. In 2006 he settled in Barcelona and performed in bars, but continued in the underground and at increasingly rare private parties where he could play long sets. Today he regularly frequents clubs such as freedonia and also mixes as an active member of Ameba (Barcelona Electronic Association). In his selections MIXeL favours energy, melodies, originality and can play in styles ranging from House, Deep, Progressive, Nu Disco, Dark Disco-Indie to Techno and Deep Trance. After 35 years behind the decks, MIXeL is not an influencer, but part of the generation of DJs who know how to take you on a musical journey.
