After the great impact of the recent anniversary compilation, Playground Records continues its march at a steady pace with 'A Cow Called Belle', the new reference by the Swedish duo Elfenberg.
Viktor and Henrik propose an EP full of reminiscences of 90s house and acid rave, combining mysterious jungle elements, an intensive groove and lysergic arrangements.

On the remixes side, the album has the enchanting hand of the sorcerer from Guadalajara Iñigo Vontier who leads the original version of the track that gives the EP its name into a total trance. And the Brooklyn legend Juan MacLean, former DFA founding member and current Correspondant ambassador, who reinterprets 'Ravers Association' with just the right touch to break any main stage.

“A Cow Called Belle'' is, bluntly, a varied, balanced and forceful album. A true toolbox for the DJ's pocket.

Manuel Castaneda a.k.a. Rigopolar is now based in Miami. He mixes up Italo, disco, techno and wave music on labels like Duro, Aeon, Nazca and Tom Tom Disco. He is a mainstay of the dark disco scene and always takes dance floors on a trip through space and time with his rough-edged but majestically melodic sounds. His new label will be a place for his most comprehensive musical statements yet, and the first offering is an instant classic of the genre.

Opener 'Purple Drive' is an expansive astral disco cut with sweeping guitar riffs and dazzling disco-fried synth work. It's chuggy and packed with stylish reverb and a well-treated vocal. Next is the twinkling 'Inversus Totalis,' which melts swaggering and dubbed out drums with twitchy synths into a sleek and far-sighted dance floor destroyer in the mold of ALFOS. The brilliant 'Melting Moon' is another dark disco gem that is quick to lock you in with its tinny percussion and rugged arps. They're backed with coarse hits and a pulsing bassline that forever forges forwards through the stars. 'Saturnia' closes down with mind-melting synth loops and prickly hits. The drums are firmly rooted, while splashy cymbals and vocoder vocals add that deep space feel.
A second EP is already in the works for later in the year and is sure to confirm this is an essential new label for dark disco heads.

Hard Fist 17th release: all about fusion of man and machine, connecting traditional singing to the electronic music dance floor attitude. Signed by prolific composer Omri Smadar, the digital EP also includes remixes by French producer Yuksek and Jordanian musician Shadi Khries.

Smolyan (written and produced with Nenor) introduces an east-european folklore chant, with a pure vintage analog production approach. Omri decided to make two different mixes, one for the early morning and one for the night.

Irish brothers, SX2, return to Disco Halal with their debut EP ‘Miracle Mayhem’, two tracks dripping in left-field groove. The artists hone an indie-dance aesthetic that’s become so synonymous with the label, but with a psychedelic edge that’s certain to transcend any dancefloor. Whether it’s on the title track, with its ever-changing vocal sample that effortlessly moves between the forefront and background, whilst its occasional manipulation pulls you into a state of frenzy before the inevitable euphoric explosion that soon follows.

On the flip side, ‘Where We’re At’ merges the worlds of acoustic and electronic production, pushing the boundaries of dance music in the process. Driven forward by a guitar led bassline, the listener is soon consumed by a sea of synths that grip on to you and refuse to let go. Residing from Waterford, Ireland, Clive and Scott Sullivan have an affinity with the unknown – inspiration can come from anywhere and such an approach is the backbone behind their music. Their offering in ‘Miracle Mayhem’ displays alternative dance music at its finest. A style championed by long-term Disco Halal family (and fellow brothers) Simple Symmetry and label head Moscoman, as well as listeners who are hot on the pursuit for something new.

Tel Aviv super group @megaphonim are bringing their off-kilter energy to Feines Tier in form of their new „Namal Ashdod“ EP with four original tracks and hell of a @simple-symmetry remix. Even though they’re all quite unique on their own, what unites the tracks is the combination of raw beats and vocals with an oddly catchy pop approach to the writing of the music. British DJ and producer, Wallace, debuts on Disco Halal with the two track EP ‘Contact’. Across both tracks, the artist showcases an eclectic taste for left-field dance music, that continuously offers the dancefloor a sense of the unexpected. On the title track, the artist delivers a peak time hit that’s driven by a thumping bassline and layers of instrumentation that’s almost hypnotising in its design. Whilst ‘Ragaman’ looks to the east for inspiration, in what’s a truly left-field interpretation of indie-dance which fits perfectly with the label’s Middle Eastern roots.

On his thought process behind the EP, Wallace states: “During a year of lockdown I found myself really struggling for the inspiration which I usually find in nature & cities. Instead, I decided to try & dream up new places & capture how they would feel. Both ‘Contact’ & ‘Ragaman’ were born from these visions. I really wanted to try & express the joy of everyone coming together again & inject this energy into the music.”

Such a diverse sound has resulted from a life dedicated to music. Wallace spent 5 years running club nights in Edinburgh and has since put all his energy into his own productions. The resulting left-field aesthetic stemmed from a unique upbringing, where the artist was exposed to sounds across the world thanks to two parents who loved music and nature respectively. The result is ‘Contact’, a journey through dance music that spans continents and cultures alike, where the artist takes aspects from his own travels and delivers something that’s truly personal to him, which has proved to be equally powerful on the dance floor.
