Premiere: Christian Smith - Blast Off (Victor Ruiz Remix)(Tronic Music)

Having laid strong musical foundations with early releases on Supdub, including debut album ‘Breakthrough’, Rostock’s Carlo Ruetz enjoyed another career defining moment with the 2014 release of ‘Controlled By Robots’. A label debut that lead to his inclusion as one of the new generation of Richie Hawtin’s Minus artists. 

Fast forward to 2016 and Carlo has spread the love further, featuring his music on the likes of KD Raw, Deeperfect, Trapez and most recently Elevate. He closes out the year with his SCI+TEC debut, the impressive double-header of Instinct / Distorted Perception. 

The disconcerting darkness of Instinct with it’s purring bassline and waves of echoing synth create an electrically charged calm-before-the-storm atmosphere. Its tempestuous twin, Distorted Perception, lulls us with its initial hypnotic beats, before finishing with a flourish of metallic strikes that stir the senses.

The first release on Reinier Zonneveld’s own imprint, Filth on Acid, launches a special EP-series, Cocktails Mix series, whereby Reinier Zonneveld collaborates with artists that influence him, both creatively and personally.

Cocktails Mix I brings 4 different variations of tech to the floor. First up is Cold Conquest, featuring Stil vor Talent's head honcho Oliver Koletzki, together they deliver a peak-time track with lots of emotional and musical elements, while keeping a steady heavy rhythm section.

Adding Gem’s labelhead Secret Cinema to the cocktail gives us a purist no nonsense techno banger perfect for dark rooms and dirty basements. 

For the third track on the EP, we see Reinier Zonneveld combined with Gabriel Ananda, showing their emotional and deep signature sound coming to the forefront, with mesmerizing melodies and brilliant synthwork. Perfect for a night closer or sunny open air.

Finally the EP closes of with Matt Sassari and Reinier going all out with an extreme energetic bomb, featuring a machine gun like synth bass.

Filth On Acid label boss Renier Zonneveld launched his new collaborative series called Cocktail with one prior release, and now has called upon one half of Deep Dish and Yoshitoshi boss Sharam for his second official release titled ‘Ski’.

Hypnotic and sharp from the get-go, ‘Ski’ is a slow-burning crowd pleaser that taps into crisp drums, classic analog synths and an absolutely chilling vocal. 'Ski', combining the best of both seasoned producers, is a teasing tune that slowly, but surely unravels into an undeniable peak set moment.

'Ski' is out on Filth On Acid on June 16.

The EP begins in stunning fashion with title track ‘Space’, driven by stirring vocal effects that build up tremendously, later giving way to a punchy acid-laced climax. ‘South’ follows, a low-end tour de force. ‘Answer’ is already familiar to fans after it featured on DCR368 Live from Loveland and the track is a rousing peak-time weapon propelled by subterranean stabs. ‘Encke’ is deliciously mind-bending, led by heavy bass and distorted effects, before ‘Module’ follows providing a groovier, but no less powerful contrast.

PREMIERE: Township Rebellion - Moses (Reinier Zonneveld Remix) [Filth on Acid]

Every raver has their sunrise story. It usually takes place around 6 AM, after dancing all night, when the first rays of light usher in a new musical energy, something wild and magical. It's the kind of moment people romanticize for years, even decades after. Such was the desired effect of Luzon's 2002 classic Manila Sunrise. The tune contains a raw, tribal energy that few others can claim. Drawing influence from the Goa scene, it's twirling pads and majestic vocal made it an instant progressive house staple that redefined the genre. We're proud to bring back this insatiable classic for our fifteenth Yoshitoshi Classic remix pack, with contributions from three of today's finest producers - label owner Sharam, Swiss studio ace Khainz, and New York techno legend Boris.

Sharam's remix adds some modern flare to the original's progressive nature. He injects some dark, drum n' bass-inspired sounds, a catchy new melody, and a beautiful, pad-and-vocal driven breakdown that transports listeners and club-goers to another dimension. Khainz makes his Yoshitoshi debut with a remix that boasts a myriad of stabs, effects, and other synth wizardry over a driving, tech house groove. His monstrous builds give away to exhilarating, unapologetic release. Finally, Boris transforms the track into a percussion-driven monstrosity that smacks of the classic New York 90's techno sound. The mix itself is built around banging drums and heavy bass, while the original's delicate vocal contrasts the brutal nature of his remix, creating a powerful sonic dichotomy. As usual, we have included a remaster of the timeless original mix to complete this package. Enjoy.

Patrice has a few words he would like to say... 

“Ahead of my GU42 Berlin album release on March 29th, I wanted to share a very special live set from the other side of the planet. Like Berlin, Rainbow Serpent is an anomaly on the rave map. This mix will be online for a very limited period only:

The best dance floor in the world. That’s the Market Stage of Rainbow Serpent Festival to me. The energy of the Rainbow tribe, the rabid vibe and feeling of unity are difficult to describe to anyone who has not been here. Simply standing on the dancefloor and experience this incredible sound system is one of life’s finer pleasures. I felt absolutely honoured to be trusted with the task to close the festival. Looking onto the dancefloor from the dj booth, the Market Stage painted a beautiful picture. The atmosphere was electric and love-drunk all day, Nick Warren and D-Nox brought their A-game.

This is my third year in a row playing here and the absolute highlight on my yearly calendar. In these years my wife and I have made friends for life here, which is why we release this mix with our beloved Wildwood crew. We have grown extremely fond of Australia as a country. This place has received us with open arms from day one and never fails to blow our minds in many different ways. It has become our second home.

#077 - Patrice Baumel (Rainbow Serpent Mad Monday Closing Set)

Those who have been in and around the dance music scene for any given amount of time, have definitely come across the name of Kasey Taylor. Not only did he compile the second Balance Series compilation, but to date, his career resume is an impressive read, ticking off gigs and residencies at almost every big show and club in his native Melbourne, before he moved to Portugal for a ten-year stint which included shows across the globe.  Now in his 32nd year of DJing, Kasey’s career began in earnest in 1996 when he managed to impress John Digweed during a warm-up set leading him to invite Kasey to play at his monthly Bedrock night at Heaven in London.

  For over two decades Kasey has had the luxury of releasing music on his label ‘Vapour Recordings’, which is 150 releases deep. In 2004 Kasey started eVapour8, the first release going on to become number 1 on the Beatport Techno charts for eight weeks and number 1 on the main charts for a month. After taking some personal time away from the scene and a four-year break from running Vapour Recordings, the label has just been rebranded along with a new website which will be relaunched around mid-2019.  

As if he isn’t busy enough, after moving to Australia in 2013 he started a new label Lo-Fi 45, and it is already showing signs of treading the same successful path of his previous imprints. The label has a focus on new and exciting talent, which sees Taylor taking on more of a mentor role too, by signing promising locals like Lask and Peruw, seeing them sit alongside productions from seasoned producers like Jamie Stevens and Kasey himself. Kasey is currently in the studio whipping up lots of new releases for Vapour Recordings and remixes for Lo-Fi-45. Watch out for new material which should be released very soon.  Kasey’s Vapourized podcast will also be back in 2019 with a rebrand and fresh new look.  

At Rainbow Serpent festival this year Kasey was booked to play on the Market Stage to an appreciative crowd of thousands. If you missed the set or would like to relive the moment, sit back and press play, we have the full two-hour recording for your entertainment. It was not only a special set for the many who witnessed it, but it was also a watershed moment for Kasey himself:   

‘My podcast for Balance is my recent set from Rainbow Serpent Festival. It’s been a while since I played on Market Stage and it was awesome of Rainbow Serpent to give me a cracker time to announce my comeback after a break for 2/3 years for personal reasons. I put a lot of love and threw everything at this one and it was a bit different to what people expected I think, in a good way. It was a fantastic afternoon and the reception was incredible and I cant thank everyone enough who was there in support.’
