Fell is proud to announce the release of a new 5-track EP, 
‘For The Pickling’ featuring David Thomas Broughton & 
members of Landshapes and Deep Throat Choir.

Tracks were initially recorded live at Soup Studios in London with producer Dan Blackett (Peggy Sue) and worked on extensively at Dan’s home studio in Islington.

These are songs of domesticity, songs of mire and muck, songs of a half-forgotten past, songs of dreaming and songs of imagined Lancastrian space-missions. Sonically the tracks draw from the wamth and closeness of Fell’s lo-fi demo recordings, adding a broader palette of ethio-jazz guitars steeped in tape-wobble, melancholic horns and woody basslines weaving around a delicate Lennon-esque vocal delivery. Half-hidden field recordings, Luisa Gerstein and Heliose Tunstall-Behrens’ dreamy backing singing and add to an air of wooziness permeating the record. ‘For The Pickling’ is the result of a deepening committment to songwriting since 2016’s ‘There Still Are Mysteries’, with Burrows playing with idiosyncratic lyrics as counterpoint to a wonky-pop vernacular and flitting between beat-driven desert-folk, multi-movement epics, sixties garage pop and brooding hymns.

Three totally different collaborative videos accompany the EP and will appear online in the run-up to the EP’s release on April 2nd.

As part of a crowdfunding campaign for the latest Fell EP (For The Pickling), I offered to write original songs in return for a suggested amount. This is the first one I wrote. It's recorded on cassette with digital overdubs.

MAGGOTS (A Halloween Song)

Fell is Nicolas Burrows, Jon Rulton, Matt de Kersaint Giraudeau and Dav Shiel. Fell’s songs are driven by Nicolas’s wry, off-kilter lyrics, considered vocal delivery and playful compositions: jangly guitar-pop and slow-burning pastoral folk sit alongside psychedelic freak-outs and krautrock rhythms. Nicolas’ intimate vocals float on top of woozy seaside organs and tape-wobbled guitars. 

Fell’s first record, ‘There Still Are Mysteries’ was produced by Andy Ramsay of Stereolab and played extensively across BBC 6 Music. Currently signed to Lost Map, Fell’s ‘For The Pickling’ EP was released in 2019, produced by Peggy Sue/Landshapes’ Dan Blackett, featuring appearances by David Thomas Broughton and Luisa Gerstein of Deep Throat Choir. During 2020, Fell began ‘Sides’ - a singles project releasing two tracks at a time all the way from 
Side A up to Side Z…

A new LP, ‘Mallows Marsh’ is set for release later this year.
