Akito is no stranger to London's club scene. Over the last years he has released four EP's and an album, established his label Sans Absence, while maintaining his monthly show on NTS Radio. In his new EP for Greek clubnights-turnt-label Not Now Records he finds a balance between his hard-hitting percussive sound and softer melodies that caption the repressed feelings of aggression, self-doubt and melancholy that the last period of isolation and uncertainty have elicited.

Opener's "Coal Mine Canary'' bouncy 97 BPM beat is complimented by distorted strings and heavy stomps, while "Double Gin & Mood Swings" follows. smoothly combining ghostly xylophone harmonics with a half-time dancefloor-ready beat and layers of percussion. 'Sliding Shadows" embodies the contrasting feeling of the record, the inner battle between serenity and undercurrent anger, where comforting steel drum chords and warm pads alternate with a menacing square bass over a hard drum riddim. In "Turb Sprog'' UK producer and frequent collaborator Noire steps in, bringing his rhythmic drum patterns against a haunted keys loop and a heavy, chorused bass, elevating the track into one of the most DJ-friendly moments of the EP. "Residual Feels" follows the same path with detuned keys, gliding sub and an icy square synth riding a percussive, tribal beat, recalling Akito's earlier work and his love for both club music and Grime. In remix duties we find bass heavyweight Last Japan taking the opening track into a whole new dimension, progressing a single loop from the original into an anthemic UK Drill instrumental.

Annoyingly talented in basically every way (except for knowing how to use an Allen & Heath mixer), Fellony’s boundless enthusiasm, curiosity and integrity sets him apart from pretty much everyone when it comes to actually LISTENING and honing in his sound and not just making a noise for the sake of it.. Cultivating a rich TAPESTY (that’s right!) of murky subs, ice cold perc slabs and what I can only assume is about 20 litres of Monster energy drink a day, because who can be THAT positive with music so dark!?!?! If you thought Mala in Cuba was a masterpiece you’re in for a treat! Because hopefully you’ll release that record was whack and you should listen to Fellony instead 8)

Fellony - Ashcroft

On ACEN018 we welcome long-time friend of the label @Duswunder. Plated Body is the first four-track EP on All Centre, showcasing the breadth and versatility of Duswunder’s sound.

The EP kicks off with Adorned, immediately introducing Duswunder’s characteristically complex sound design. Enchanting pads lay the foundation before giving way to a disorientating DnB-adjacent rhythm. From here refined, abrasive textures dominate whilst tender melodies lurk beneath. The track reaches its peak with a dizzying arpeggiated melody, eventually giving way to the subdued choral pads.

The next track is Loccc, slowing the tempo but keeping the intensity strong. A range of meticulously manipulated percussive noises weave around intricate drum patterns. The track eventually breaks down, resembling something of a malfunctioning machine, as stunning melodic lines rise from the corroding rhythms.

We then find ourselves with the interlude Sprung. An exercise in space and weight, the track contrasts moments of enthralling intensity and near-silence, punctuated by shimmering synths and affecting vocal samples.

Duswunder closes the EP with Evo. The track gradually brings the energy back up to an apex with the introduction of driving kicks, accented by morphing percussion hits and alluring voices. Emotive melodic elements lie beneath the driving rhythms, brought to the forefront as the track breaks down, before closing out with another arresting rhythmic assault.

Plated Body is available across all platforms from July 3rd.
