TRANSIT BERLIN: #09 - Brandmauer

Irish electro producing artist DeFeKT will supply the second Electronic Explorations 12″ release.

Electronic Explorations went from widely respected podcast to fledgling label in quite distinctive fashion last year, releasing an epic 61 track digital compilation canvassing electronic music which featured unreleased material from an impressive range of artists including AnD, Kowton, Old Apparatus, and Perc. Four of the contributions from that compilation by Δkkord, Kahn, Milanese and Ruckspin were subsequently included on the maiden Electronic Explorations vinyl release EE:V:001.

With Electronic Explorations founder Rob Booth fully engaged on A&R duties at Houndstooth, the label aspect has taken something of a back seat this year, though news has now arrived of their second 12″ release.

Whilst the first EE 12″ traversed the 130BPM plus bassier end of the spectrum, the label’s second vinyl release turns to electro with a four track EP from Dublin-based producer DeFeKT, who appeared on the aforementioned Electronic Explorations compilation with “Sunseq”. DeFeKT’s Transmuter EP will be Electronic Explorations first solo artist record, which follows the Irishman’s Switch EP released earlier this year on the Signal Code imprint, and his contribution to a Cultivated Electronics sampler which saw DeFeKT collaborate with Sync 24, alongside other productions from Gosub, Versalife and the ever-prolific Tadd Mullinix as J.T.C.

It's with great pleasure that we offer up our next release from https://soundcloud.com/dez-williams. One of our favourite producers of recent years through releases on standout UK labels like SCSI-AV, Acruacree, Ai and many others, we had noticed an absence of new 12"s since his storming doublepack on Patrick Pulsinger's Cheap imprint in 2008. So to put things right, here's an end to the Dez Williams vinyl drought - 4 tracks of bonafide Holyhead magic to rock the floor. 

Starting with the melting frequencies of 'Underground Persistent', acid is in control. Like an Emmanuel Top and Kosmik Messenger track if they'd ever collaborated, this combines swingy 808 drums and masterful Detroit strings to a searing acid-line that keeps going and going. Switching things into more straight-ahead acid territory on A2, 'Untitledacid 6' has pretty much one intention and that's to jack hard. Perhaps one of Dez's heaviest techno tracks to date, it's a perfect snapshot of many hedonistic nights spent at The Orbit throughout his formative techno years. 

'Freedom' on the flip is a dense techno workout that joins a strong looped vocal and distorted percussion to swamping sound fx, in a rough but funky way. This time an expert pad progression brings the track to an unexpected but fitting finale. Finally, and showing what a complete supremo he is where dark floor-friendly electro is concerned, Dez turns in a blistering cut of sci-fi electro with 'Courtesy Call'. We could have made a number of records with the amount of great electro tracks that Dez does, but in this case we just picked our favourite of the bunch.

CODA (II)

   Julita was born in Vilnius on the 24th of February, 1990. „It all started when I was 16 and downloaded the Fruity Loops app. I was putting samples together but soon ran out of motivation to keep going...“ – this is how Julita describes the outset of her career in music. In 2006, being already quite familiar with house and techhouse music, Julita still did not dare to turn her love of music into a career, and further followed a period of silence.
However, in 2009, at the age of 19, Julita realized that her life wouldn‘t make sense without music, so she held her first appearance at a private party – which makes 2009 her debut year. First Femii played dark minimal sounds, but, as the saying has it, the farther in the deeper, so very soon pure minimal got way too scanty, and in search of a richer sound Julita got acquainted with techno. Perc, Mike DEHNERT, Oscar Mulero were her first inspirations which put her on the right track.
In 2010 Femii began recording sets. Playing at friends' homes, in the basements and underground studios brought her priceless experience.
In 2011, with the first real gig, the festival „Ravana 2011“, she started to take the development of her skills more seriously. More frequent performances led to the District Facility – Femii became a member of the team. That was the point when she started to create her own works:
Biomechanics – the first EP released by Audioexit netlabel (Hungary) in February, 2013. It was intended specially for series of team parties by the same name – Biomechanics.
Then flooded invitations for remixes and EPs, and it was time to create the second EP of her own:
Unpleasantday released by Kidnappingnetlabel. 
Femii‘s rising creative energy then applied itself in collaboration with such labels as:

One day, the curves and turns of her creative path finally led to the first album:

The first Femii‘s album under the title Mindsout came out in 2015 (released by District Facility label)
