Since Document One stormed onto Technique's roster, this production duo have set about marking out their very own niche in the D&B spectrum. Songwriters' musicality and an appreciation for multiple genres, while still keeping focus firmly on the dancefloor, makes for a powerful combination. Now, with this latest release, they're back to consolidate their status and draw together some more threads in their ongoing multi-form musical narrative.

“I Got a Fever” wastes no time in laying out the formula. A swing-time low-end perforates smoky jazz club ambience, with loose percussion holding down the beat. The bass morphs between upright plucks and synthetic sweeps to neatly underline Document One's approach of providing a slick modern twist on foundation sounds. As the track builds, a vocal sample signals its time for the bass and drum to tighten up and drop into a cowbell-led funkstepping ride. This is summer music, as much about fun and partying with a smile on your face as it is about serious musicianship.

Then there's a whole different take on the summertime vibe for “Follow Me”. Ethereal vocals float over crisp and punchy drums, accompanied by long liquid bass tones, delicate trumpet and laid-back keys. It's a gentle soulful roller... But then it's suddenly not that at all. Document One puncture the atmosphere like a sharp intake of breath and kick us with a boot made from filthy bass. And now the light and floating sounds from before just serve to accentuate the heavyweight drive of the rave engine this tune has become. When the dancefloor needs a kickstart, here's one to draw for.

So, Document One have proved once again that they not only understand the palette of sounds and textures offered by jazz, funk and soul, but they're also willing and able to twist them into their own paradigm. They make music to make musicians nod in appreciation, but to make everyone else rave hard.

"Nice low choir samples in the background, combined with some nice tuned layered pads. Crisp hi-hat followed by some nice shakes and a sick vox sample. 

"The drop is complete vibes, really impressed with how DCult implements those girl vox samples. They create some mellow yet dark/ horrific soundscapes. Loving the eastern vibe coming off this one, projected through the percussion which is clear and on point and of course the pads! Nice drum patterns, really feeling the kick and that snare fits the mix perfectly. 

"Nice delay on some of the high-end elements, the break sounds peaceful through the vox sample – yet again a nice build-up towards the second drop! You hear some sick progression made after the second drop, percussion still on point through the mix – the track easily vibing through my head. I'm liking the way DCult builds down the track slowly but steady. The delayed vox sample at the end is used well and is in my opinion the right way to end a track like this. DCult shows that he can calm your mind with ease, this track is a reminder of the track ‘Inner Peace’, which is one of my most favourite tracks (of the year)."

"You’re immediately confronted with what I call a growlpad (haha). It doesn’t return as one leading the track, but for the intro it’s perfect; nicely layered and gives the build-up some nice character. The kick and the snare are really on point, pounding and punchy, fitting with the atmosphere which surrounds the track – just the way I like them. The sample is total sickness, probably one of my favourites at this moment. 

"Growls causing serious impact on the brain, nice variations on them and nice placement in the mix, I’m really impressed – listen to that subtle delay on some of them too. The low-end is seriously dangerous, just feel how low this one comes out of your sub, serious weight sounding warm yet aggressive. Drum patterns are on point, nice variations and fade in-and-out from time to time to keep things fresh. 

"What about that girl vox, again DCult’s signature element in the mix, sounding gorgeous and balancing out the evil vibe coming off this one? Madness. The break is straight, loving the resonance and the deepness of the pads involved followed by that sick sample. The second drop is sick, and kicks in a little later, which I find very original. Nice switch-ups in terms of element use as well. No more words I can add to this, this remix (and the other two tracks) = mindblowing material…"
