Matthias Krüger is a composer of contemporary classical and experimental music. He has studied music composition at Cologne’s Hochschule für Musik und Tanz and at Columbia University in New York City, as well as French language in Cologne and Sorbonne University in Paris. He spent the 2021/22 year following the postgraduate Cursus in electronic and computer music at IRCAM, Paris. His principal composition teachers include Krzysztof Meyer, Fabien Lévy and Johannes Schöllhorn. Aside from his activity as a freelance composer, he is currently a doctoral candidate at Hamburg's University of Music and Theatre, researching on hybrid composition between music, dance and theatre. Between September 2023 and April 2024 he is composer in residence at Goethe-Institut of Montreal/Le Vivier as well as a Graduate Researcher at McGill University Montreal.
He has received numerous awards (including DAAD, Berlin’s Mendelssohn competition in 2013, Cologne's Zimmermann award in 2015 and Prix Chevillion-Bonnaud of Orléans 2016) as well as commissions and has had his music performed in Austria, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the US and Canada as well as China and Japan, including festivals such as ECLAT Stuttgart, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Festival de Royaumont, Northwestern University New Music Conference 2014, Shanghai New Music Week and Mallorca Saxophone Festival, and venues such as Konzerthaus Berlin, Palau de la Música Catalana Barcelona, Centre Pompidou and Carnegie Hall New York.

His first portrayed disc "ain't nuthin' but fairy dust" was released in the fall of 2021 and has been longlisted for the German Record Critics' Award 01/2022.

Through a balance of vision and homage, Regent crafts a sound where the raw edge of classic rhythms meets forward-leaning narratives. Rooted in Berlin, his music carries a deep respect for techno’s past while remaining in constant motion, reflective yet ever seeking. 

Emerging in 2021, Regent forged a blueprint that merges commanding grooves with cerebral detail. This approach has taken shape across releases such as Mutual Rytm, Clergy, and Phorum, establishing a sound known for its rich sonics and anthemic pull, resonating on dance floors well beyond Berlin. 

As a DJ, Regent moves fluidly across techno’s spectrum, from tripped-out depths to gnarlier ascents, often drawing from an extensive archive of unreleased material to preserve a sense of exploration and singularity. What began at off-location parties around Berlin has since evolved into performances at key institutions such as Tresor and Bassiani, where his sets unfold in a measured dialogue of control and release. 

Recently expanding the project into a live format, Regent presents a more direct, risk-forward iteration of his sound, revealing new detail in real time. Guided by perpetual curiosity, he continues to refine a distinct past-meets-future identity through focused productions and standout mixes.

The confines of contemporary music often ensnare a musician in a particular sound. Wrapped up in a box that defines and sells the 'product', that it's easier to digest for the modern consumer. It operates on a plane where it is assimilated in tiny soundbites that are quickly digested and moved on. Sound can get lost amongst trying to 'make it' or get likes. Music is not lost though; it exists as it always has and the passion for composing transcendent and transportive tracks exists in an artist like Raffaele Attanasio.

Born to a musician father in his home city of Naples, Attanasio was only satiated when listening to virtuoso maestros like Il Guardiano del Faro and Keith Emerson. Developing his prodigious ear, he trained on drums and then piano and his auspicious ability become apparent early. In his late teens, he ventured into DJing and electronic music production and has garnered plaudits from Jeff Mills, Len Faki and Ben Sims; even performing with Mills in a B2B live set and also Octave One. He found a home within the electronic music community, heading his own label Letter From Jerusalem, and releasing on others, such as Third Wave Black and Non Series. His label even released music from Douglas McCarthy of the band Nitzer Ebb.

What has never been lost on Attanasio is his eclectic flair. His releases span from nefarious techno - even releasing under his X-501 alias - to riveting Detroit inspired dance music with soulful piano. That piano may encapsulate a sound not many may equate to the Italian, but he now threads down a course that garners influences from his native Naples and musicians like Keith Jarret Duke Ellington and even Hans Zimmer. His artistic mould is shaped from by his experiences, and these are laid bare in his jazz-tinged sound on his album Nuovo Futuro, which was released on Axis records. Kaleidoscopic in his quenching of musical thirst, Attanasio keeps music in its purest form. These melodic air vibrations evoke something opaque, yet wildly pulchritudinous, regardless of the audience.
