The fifth instalment in the fledgling X-Kalay mix series is delivered by Berlin based DJ, Zeynep. Here she contributes a heady blend of propulsive club centric sounds; seamlessly moving through contemporary styles of house, acid and trance. 

In her own words: "I recorded this mix in winter dreaming of warmer days and sunny raves. One and a half hours full of energy driven stompy tunes that release huge euphoria in me. There's a significant chance you've come across the name Asphalt DJ, also known as Doron Retig, recently. The Berlin-based DJ and producer has been riding an unstoppable wave since the release of his first EP 'Now & Zen' in 2022, in collaboration with his close friend Gzardin. In less than a year, he has released music on Oddysee, Gestalt, Tofistock, One Eye Witness, and has upcoming releases scheduled on Glow Mid and Haŵs. 

He grew up being surrounded by psychedelic music stemming from the late 80’s and 90’s. Whether he found himself listening to rock, pop, experimental music, house, techno or 90's trance; the use of psychedelic sounds is prevelant in his musical journey, and its influence on Doron is evident in his productions and sets.

The mix is a one-hour-long locked groove, consisting of thumping and hypnotising bass lines, combined with uplifting melodies and deep strings that reach to your core. It allows you to soothe out while simultaneously keeping you in an unpropelled dance zone. It's a high-energy house train that smoothly rides through UK and US house, 90s Detroit influences, and some of his unreleased tracks that showcase his signature house sound, shaped by his roots. Bennet made their Body Language debut on 12.08, serving up an all-vinyl masterclass in the Queer and joyful roots of rave! 

Picture this: it’s 5:30 in the morning and you’re on a sexy, sweaty Body Language dancefloor. The crowd is a sea of smiles, and the dancefloor is literally dripping from the heat of the moment as Bennet traverses through oldskool house, early progressive house and trance, breaks, and early rave hymns.

Rooted in Hannover’s local scene, Bennet is part of the DJ-collective soft spot, co-founded the party series Buttercup and holds a residency at Weltspiele.

Bennet started mixing their favorite vinyls during lockdown, seeking for affects and energetic repercussions of the imaginative dance floor. Going all across the board, they always recur to the dancefloor’s utopian notions of togetherness and unity and political dimensions of the body.
