Eric Umble is a versatile artist based in Brooklyn, known for his skills in sound art, clarinet, DJing, and event production. He has a classical music background and a passion for experimental sounds, which inspired his transition to DJing. Eric is also the co-founder, lead producer, and resident of FACETIME, a community-based platform that promotes music, dance, and visual art through events in NYC and beyond. He is a regular performer at various venues in New York, offering an eclectic blend of driving, hypnotic, uplifting, melodic, and groovy beats that never fail to mesmerize his audience.

The mix features minimal, driving, and loopy techno tracks that intensify the uplifting and melodic elements. Eric incorporates disco and house elements, using acapella vocal loops to enhance the minimal material. He mixed with two CDJs, keeping the energy high with a fast style and exploring slower tracks at higher speeds. The recording was a single take, intentionally raw and unpolished, showcasing the energy that resulted from taking risks.

With your classical background, what do you think are some elements that are similar between techno and classical music?
"On a personal note, my entire musical life has been a journey of honing into the spaces where I felt seen, supported, actualized, and safe. This started with an interest in clarinet as a closeted queer kid growing up in a Mennonite family in PA. I didn't have language to process my experience as a queer person, and clarinet gave me a method to communicate beyond words, along with a community. Discovering techno took this to a new level for me. As a DJ, I aim to share this sense of community and safety, hoping to contribute to spaces where others can feel safe enough to take a step toward healing. This is what techno does for me, and it's what I hope we can all do together through sharing and holding space for each other.

On a musical note, my favorite music to perform as a clarinetist was long-form and repetitive, and I became curious about how musical material develops over time and how methods of progression affect our experience of time. I also performed a lot of process-music that explores musical forms driven by the means and parameters of a given process vs. the traditional linear development of material. I find these concepts present everywhere in techno. When listening to a classical work that reaches a musical climax, I always want it to STAY THERE for a while and live in that climax. But it doesn't; the line continues somewhere else. Techno can sometimes feel like the climax is always there, never releasing, and unrelenting. I find this unresolved tension deeply cathartic."

For our sixth transmission, we dive deep with Fiat LuXx – a true Denver, Colorado legend and the driving force behind his intimät collective. We were fortunate to cross paths years ago while organizing one of our very first masia parties, and from that moment, a deep connection was forged. We are incredibly proud to count Fiat LuXx as one of our esteemed residents, a cherished family member, and are eternally grateful for his endless support, profound wisdom, and boundless love.   

Known for his mastery of hypnotic Techno infused with diverse influences, Fiat LuXx is a true 4-channel mixing wizard who fearlessly takes risks behind the decks. He's earned a reputation as a "dancefloor-flipper," renowned for his ability to transform any space with his electrifying soundscapes. His extensive career in the Denver Techno scene has seen him share stages with an impressive roster of high-caliber artists, including Chris Liebing, Magda, Alan Fitzpatrick, and Wehbba, to name just a few.   

This powerful set was recorded live from our last Rave Cave, during the intimät showcase at the EMBRACE Retreat. Prepare for a deep, hypnotic, and utterly surprising experimental music journey. Here´s what Fiat had to say about his set: 

"The power in sharing a selection of music/sounds in an intentional way, curating a profound journey, exists in a receptive, engaged dancefloor. This cathartic experience is often found in small spaces where small, local or worldly communities come together.

EMBRACE is most certainly one of those, very cathartic spaces that allow me as a selector to fully express myself, take risks, and allow music to guide the process. 

This mix, I think is an example of exactly this. It's such a recharging and inspiring experience every time ❤️"

Nina (DJ alias иιиιт'α), who is self-taught, came of age in the male-dominated early 90's rave scene, has been heavily influenced by the deeper sounds of techno, poly-rhythmic electronic music and most things unconventional. Nina, who views the art of mixing as a spiritual practice that seeks to "balance relationship to mind and body, "prefers private parties to clubs/bars where the dancing is louder than the conversation. She seeks to "reinvent the club scene to promote listening and dancing through connection and somatic awareness rather than an unconscious escape."  Her sets lean in the direction of hypnotic, layered with long transitions, telling the story of the moment, often with a dark and moody undertone that reveals splashes of light and space to feel. A life-long dancer, Nina views music as a portal into a web that connects her to everything.

Fiat LuXx likens his techno aesthetic to standing in the middle of a running engine. It’s an apt metaphor. Beyond music alone, the Denver DJ and producer has set in motion a creative vision consisting of countless moving parts.

His impeccable taste as a selector has earned him the respect of notable figures in the worldwide house and techno community. Perhaps equally compelling is his constantly evolving INTIMäT concept: an abstract artistic ideal that has manifested as a creative space, live stream podcast, clothing label and print shop at various points since its inception.

The Colombian DJ/artist launched his music career in Colorado, where he played an integral role in the inception of EKŌ HOUSE, an after hours venue that evolved into a multi-purpose creative space. It was in this liberated environment that the seeds of INTIMäT were planted, and he’s tasked himself with developing the brand in the time since.

As spread out as his ambitions may seem, Fiat LuXx’s abundant creativity becomes apparent as soon as you see him behind the decks. A true student of techno who derives inspiration from the likes of Jeff Mills, Oscar Mulero, Etapp Kyle, Jonas Kopp, (among others) he keeps his DJ sets unpredictable by taking calculated risks. He also continues to incorporate new equipment into his repertoire, as well as challenging himself to rewind time and appreciate the art of vinyl and more elementary accessories.

Over the years, Fiat LuXx has opened for such renowned DJs as Chris Liebing, Alan Fitzpatrick, Adriatique, Sian, John Acquaviva, Roger Sanches, Francesca Lombardo, Wehbba, Sergio & Benoit, Oscar L, BLOND:ISH, Anthony Attalla, Quiver, Robert Armani, Frankie Bones, Hyperactive, Nigel Richards, Paul Johnson, Akufen, Nitin, Gene Farris, Edu Imbernon, Shaded, Rodriguez Jr and Asher Perkins to name a few. In addition to gigging in Miami and throughout Colorado and Texas, he has also performed in New Orleans, Washington D.C., Croatia, Spain, the U.K. and his nation of ancestry, Colombia. He has recently moved to Barcelona, Spain where he is seeking to expand the INTIMÄT brand.
