Buffalo Ink are Caragh Campbell and Nick Powell, a fiercely original and critically acclaimed avant-pop two-piece from south-east London.

After meeting at Goldsmiths College in 2009, it became clear that Caragh’s danceable break-beats and unabashedly glitchy sense of rhythm would constitute a perfect foil for Nick’s heavily layered electronic loops and triple-X guitar riffs.

Many live music dedicatees on the thriving South London scene will still recall the first time they heard a trademark Buffalo Ink guitar hook tearing through the sinuous and expansive sonic texture forged expertly by the combination of Powell’s esoteric loops and Campbell’s dense, tight-to-the-point-of-snapping beats, all anchored by the pair’s sometimes delicate, always original vocal harmonies. These people can say that they have had the Buffalo Ink experience.

Artrocker Magazine have written that, when speaking of Buffalo Ink, “for once ‘derivative’ is a dirty word”.  This is not the only thing that is dirty about Buffalo Ink: their music is at times dense and heavy, at times airy and transcendent, but the band have never cut their ties to the live music scene that spawned them and there is always something raw, something illicit, something dirty about their sound. After spending a year gigging, honing their skills and writing increasingly mature and intricate songs, culminating in forthcoming single “We Are Your Bones”, still Buffalo Ink’s is a sound whose response is never a nod of the head or a tap of the foot, but a ripping and moving sonic wave to which the whole body must yield.
