Laolu & Raoul K’s excellent debut EP for Compost Records is the perfect amalgamation of state of the art housemusic, african rhythm- and soundtextures being topped by the deep and spiritual vocals of Ahmed Sosso.

It’s not the first fruitful collaboration of Geneva based Laolu and Raoul K who’s living in Lübeck – a contemplative small town in the north of Germany. With their collective effort on „Sene Kela“, released on Raoul’s label Baobab in 2014, the duo easily brigded the gap between their african roots and modern house, between deepness and rave appeal. A truly adorable piece of dance music that deeply touched and left a lasting impression on Compost Records head honcho Michael Reinboth, who licensed the song for his long standing „Future Sounds of Jazz“ compilation series immediately. With „Djougou Yah“, Laolu and Raoul K are picking up this vibe again but turning the wheel even further – delivering two marvelous versions of the song. Besides the musical and magnificently orchestrated and arranged Original there’s the Perc Mix. With its punchy Kick drum, stripped back percussion work, striking synth arpeggios and an epic breakdown it’s got this perfect peaktime and festival appeal to it. The lyrics and vocals are written and performed by the african singer and musician Ahmed Sosso whose unique voice already pleased our ears on Manoo & Raoul K’s Innervisions „Toukan EP“ from last year. Music with a message – music that went straight into our hearts!

A legend of Bristol’s dance music scene, Jody Wisternoff releases his brand new twelve-track LP ‘Nightwhisper’ today. His first solo album in eight years, ‘Nightwhisper’ follows Wisternoff’s 2012 debut LP ‘Trails We Blaze’ and esteemed catalogue as Way Out West. 

A formative figure in the UK rave scene, Wisternoff first made his name in the early ’90s before cementing his position as one of the UK’s finest talent-spotters and DJs as part of the Anjunadeep label family, where he co-curates the chart-topping annual compilation series. 

Written primarily in 2019, ‘Nightwhisper’ is a deeply personal album born out of a time of introspection for the Bristol producer following the death of his father:

“It was a time of conflicting emotions for me… I suddenly found myself appreciating the simpler things in life in a way that I had never done before, but on an equal note also questioning mortality on a level that is only possible after the passing of a family member.” 

Amidst the hefty demands of fatherhood and touring, Jody came to embrace his newfound awareness of impermanence and loss in his songwriting. The intimacy of the album is quickly conveyed in the opening track ‘Morning U’, which features spoken home recordings of Jody’s father above a touching melody. Exploring the full spectrum of emotion, the lively progressions and lyrics of ‘Lately’ and ‘Reverie’ provide an optimistic contrast to more melancholic numbers ‘For Those We Knew’ and ‘Nightwhisper’. 


Sonically, the album is heavily influenced by Wisternoff’s eclectic tenure in the UK music scene. Launching his career in 1986 at the age of 13 as a finalist at the DMC World DJ Championship, Wisternoff honed his craft at the forefront of UK rave culture, playing warehouses for seminal promoters Fantazia and Universe, and hosting a residency at the iconic Lakota club in Bristol. After a chance encounter in a record store, Wisternoff joined forces with Nick Warren to form Way Out West. The luminary duo rose to fame in the 1990s with several UK-charting singles and a UK dance number one in ‘Mindcircus’, quickly followed by a 1997 album ‘Way Out West’, which saw critical and commercial success. 


A statement LP with a pertinent message during this grounded time, ‘Nightwhisper’ is a culmination of Wisternoff’s decorated career and progression as an artist, husband, and father: 

“‘Nightwhisper’ is an attempt at finding balance and inner peace during the ever-changing life journey… In some ways, it’s a personal lullaby, a call back to simpler times which of course is impossible, but comforting none the less.”

Estonia, a country filled with countless sights of incredible nature. Inspiration is blooming out of every corner, waiting to be picked up by anyone, who dares to search for it. The estonian producer about : river has embarked on this very journey and returned with a cinematic sound, filled with emotion, texture and fullfilling atmospheres, that create a broad and stimulating release. His originals include live percussion, analogue synthesizers and authentic piano progressions, that are all well balanced, never feeling too much nor too little.

The incredibly talented duo of Volen Sentir retouched the marvelous "Silver Dusk" with a sharp & continuous groove, mixed with subtle vocal layers and smart elements, that further emphasize the beauty of the main lead. Zoi captures the ground layers of "Feather Rain and is able to extract a hypnotic and simultaniously organic atmosphere, that is inlaid in his silky smooth groove, never pushing it too far, but rather sustaining a constant atmosphere, that is both gentle and energetic.
