Boris Bunnik has finished his third full-length album as Conforce. Entitled 'Kinetic Image', the ten-track album is to be released on Delsin in November following on from his standout offering, 'Escapism', back in 2011.

In the last few years, Dutchman Bunnik has established himself as one of the most prolific producers in many different sonic realms. From deep, stripped down explorations to raw and rugged techno via conceptual and cinematic sound design projects, he is a master craftsman who coaxes evocative sounds from both analogue and digital tools whether working as Versalife, Silent Harbour or any of his other monikers.

Kinetic Image, though, is the sound of Conforce producing without the dancefloor in mind. It’s the sound of him moving away from the past and into the present. The album has very much been designed to be heard in one sitting, as a complete experience that moves away from regimented 4/4 beats and into slower, more surreptitious tempos.

The result is an all consuming sonic journey of intriguing and inspiring sounds that range from full on cerebral excursions into vast open spaces that throb invitingly (Scientific Trajectory) to underwater daydreams that suspend you deep in an ocean as various mycobacterial details float by. There’s also more industrial sounding fair that depicts a desolate warehouse in perennial decay (Semantic Field) and mysterious echo chambers that spread out all around you as celestial light beams and haunting melodic ripples gently float by as per the excellent Temporary Reversals.

An aquatic vibe pervades – no doubt a side effect of recent projects under other monikers – and the title itself relates to the fact that Conforce wanted to make moving images and art that evolve and unfold like passing landscapes. He sure has done that, because Kinetic Images is like an imaginary soundtrack to the last days of Atlantis… it sucks you in, it churns you about and it makes for music that consumes your whole conscious and rewards it with very real sonic imagery.

As is always the case with this label, the album comes with bespoke artwork from Dutch designers Graphic Surgery who are inspired by “urban environments” and “experimental electronic music from the 1990’s”. Created using an analogue spray paint/stencil technique, each 'box' or 'step' is an original image on paper and gives rise to the aesthetic of minor failures. As such, the repetitive and monochromatic design they have come up with for Kinetic Images is both structured and architectural yet dynamic and fluid at the same time. Completed with crisp typography and luxurious amounts of negative space, it’s artwork as considered as the music it conceals.

The releases on Curle roughly go anywhere between deep house and solid techno, but Hiver’s deep techno sound is probably what I appreciate most myself if I had to choose. Melodic, floating and based on traditions but without sounding like something you already heard too often, that’s about how I would describe the Italian duo’s second Curle EP. Their first one got played by Sven Väth and Efdemin just to name a few. Hiver hold a residency at Milan’s Dude Club, but in the meantime have played everywhere from Dimensions festival to Panorama Bar.

Bohdan is fast becoming one of the most recognizable names in the modern Ukrainian electronic scene. Over the past couple of years, he has put out releases on some of the front-rank imprints in contemporary techno, including Informa, Norite and Illegal Alien. His works have received strong support from Antigone, Kangding Ray, and other key figures, and have been remixed by AWB, Deepbass, Hydrangea and HD Substance.

Bohdan's sets, as well as his own music, ranging from introspective, aesthetic vibes, filled with organic atmospheres and spatial sound landscapes, to functional, intense and hypnotic rhythms of a full-fledged techno experience.

Premiere: Hans Berg - Something Delicious

Italian dub techno maestro, Hydergine returns on his own Ranges label with a double EP of delightfully deep grooves. Hydergine has been pushing his spellbinding electronic sound for almost a decade now, dropping vinyl focused releases on labels like Minimood, Phorma and Knotweed, as well as his own Ranges imprint. The artist hails from Italy’s deep south and took his production moniker from the mood altering smart drug of the same name. His music is characterized by subtle electronic textures, floating soundscapes and a penchant for the raw sounds of dub techno. ‘Light infusions’ opens up the A side with ‘Escape’ an entrancing and beatless eight-minute intro track that perfectly sets the scene, before ‘Therapeutic Flow’ brings a gently driven and hazy groove to bear. The flipside begins by offering a collaboration with Copenhagen’s Mikkel Metal as the pair deliver ‘Blue Lotus’, a hypnotic and engaging affair build around whispered hi hats, cosmic synths and understated melodies. The first slab concludes with ‘Gamma Ray’, as Hydergine journeys into deep techno territory with a dinstinct Detroit feel. The second 12” opens with a track featuring dub techno veterans Merv, known for their 90s productions on Dancecop, as well as more recent offerings on Minimood, Subwax BCn and more. ‘Phrases’ see the pair working with Hydergine on the excellent ‘Phrases’, a supremely dubby piece that builds slowly but intensely across its eight-and-a-half-minute duration. ‘Retrofitted Future’ takes a slight darker turn with a heady and muted approach before we reach another collaborative effort, this time with Detroit’s Luke Hess. Hess needs little introduction to fans of quality techno with a discography that takes in Rekids, Planet-e and Echocord. Here he gives his input on ‘Pervasive Depth’, a true gem of a cut that fuses the deepest of dub techno with an inspired arpeggiated top line. The packages closes out with ‘Landscapes’, a final opus that sees Hydergine join forces with France’s Audub for the perfect final piece in the puzzle. Paveikslas simbolizuoja gyvybę, kuri gali būti skirtingo pavidalo, skirtingu metu. Gyvybės skleidžiama energija, yra kitokia - ji tave atpalaiduoja ir tuo pačiu užpildo iš vidaus, o tai skatina augti į kažką didesnio ir geresnio.
