TURBO 173 - PERTH DRUG LEGEND - Bliss & Envy: Halfers on a Fishbowl

One half of Scottish duo Clouds, Perth Drug Legend tear off a solo EP of rugged, apocalyptic bloke-techno.

What more can be said about Clouds, young prodigies who have put out as much innovative techno in the past few years than anyone. The story takes a twist with a wealth of material being released by PDL, hot off a remix of Tiga’s Bugatti and releases on Resin and Westend Communications. The sound is reminiscent of Ghost Systems Rave, but there’s the feeling that things have gotten even more refined, something that smacks of a real subcultural movement.

Opener Balquhidder Ruins is a stomping gate-crasher, the tempo pulled back just enough to feel the grit of industrial funk, everything restrained to it’s bare essentials.

The forth compilation of Frente Bolivarista is inspired on the sounds of Nomade Festival which happened in Halver/Germany in the year of 2016. After a three day journey of fusion music into the woods meeting dozens of great and insipiring people from all over the globe willing to join for the good music and the regionalism behind it, we decided to release a compilation inspired on the artists envolved with the festival and of course some of our all the time artists,

A unique group of producers hailing from the western United States and South America have answered Feathericci’s call and the resulting collaboration is ‘SZA GEOW Remixes’.

Uji casts a polyrhythmic, slow-groove version of ‘Mushdoum’ featuring samples of Argentinian, Wichi-Mataco indigenous singer, Anahis.  

Huge thanks to whatever planet gave us Ten and Tracer.  His churning, swinging triplet remix of ‘SZA GEOW’ invokes the image a herd of enormous robotic elephants marching in formation toward an unknown but ever-important destination.

‘Cloudy’ gets kicked into overdrive by Denver based FOANS.  This driving, house version is destined to ignite dance floors far and wide.

Bubbly and dark is the flavour of tech house that Spoolius Melange has designed with their iteration of ‘SZA GEOW’.  Feathericci's vocal is elegantly diced into 16th notes skittering above a fiercely interlocking groove.

Mi oh my!  ‘Cloudy’ has become quite brisk and dancing in threes is good for the knees.  That 2/3rds time breakdown makes you almost melt to the floor.

In the context of this EP it just made sense to put David Last.  And what better way to end it?  Slow and psychedelic, this mix will whisk you away to another place.

Feathericci - Mushdoum (Uji Remix feat. Ahnais)

Multi Culti’s lucid-lifestyle dreamer Peter Power takes us on a free-wheeling trip to the motherland on AFRO DAMBA.

The Irish-born Voodoohop resident has returned from the jungles of Bahia with a fresh ep of primal party tracks sampling voices and rhythms from across Africa and it’s neighbouring islands, producing what is easily his most club-oriented work to date. Whereas his tracks for Voodoohop were spiritual flute-heart-openers, these are neo-pagan mating-ritual floor-fillers. The rhythm is set to tribal chug, with rollicking percussion, reverb-soaked vocals, and all the fun jangly bells & bits you expect to be hanging off such a well-traveled producer.

If that weren’t enough, we enlisted Romanian-dance-duo Khidja to double-down and remix both Adama Waro and Dansakoni (available as a digital-exclusive). Resident mix-lord Dreems also weighs in with a subtle remix of Dansakoni, gently upping the tempo and tweaking the knobs in selfless service of the original groove.

We celebrate two years of Shika Shika with the release of our third compilation: Eco. 

Eco sums up what Shika Shika is about - the global reverberations of styles, genres, traditions and sounds moving around the world and fusing to create inspiring new music. We call it music without borders and on Eco we present 11 tracks that are exactly that. 

The tracks we hand-picked for Eco draw inspiration from traditional rhythms, stories and melodies and fuse them with individual inspirations, sounds from nature and electronic music. This is exemplified on Di Laif’s anthemic opener “Paso Por el Fuego” or Guazú’s incredible “Pava de Monte” featuring Wenceslada. Some artists like Jin Jerei and Oxhalá take us on a journey deep into their roots while others like Didacte and O.R. create atmospheric textural, electronic-organic soundscapes. Ibu Selva’s “Chega de Esperar” is a rework of a Brazilian agrarian reform anthem while Klik & Frik offer up a beautiful edit of Hassan Ben Jaafar, a master of Moroccan Gnawa music. 

It is hard to believe it has been two years since Shika Shika was started as a platform to showcase some of the music we truly loved from the thriving community from Sao Paulo to Seoul. Two years of connections, exchanges, ideas, new sounds and, most of all, incredible support and feedback from the people who listen & buy this music all over the world. We started Shika Shika as a way to give exposure and support to this community, sharing 70% of all the profits with the artists directly, and are inspired to continue pushing the music we love. 

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We all appreciate it dearly.

@intinahualmusic is a talented musician from Mexico that we met via our friends from @Voodoohop. The track that he send us blew us away from the first time we listened to it and we are delighted to share it with you.

Intis intention with this track was to take you onto a journey into time and space and to make you feel the tribal dance of shamanic tribes in Mexico. For that purpose he used many natural sounds like drums, birds &  native chants. He fusioned them with contemporary rythms and tried to create a connection with the ancestors and nature. So close your eyes, awake your inner animal instincts and enjoy this beauty in full awareness.
