The humble roots of Vessel can be traced back to a parking lot jam at an open mic on Vancouver Island. In that chance meeting Sperlin Jansz (local Coffeeshop owner) and Jonathan Hinds (Fiftieth Parallel) combined voice and acoustic guitar to write the first song for what would later become Vessel.

In summer 2013 Vessel became a trio. Now consisting of Jansz, Hinds and Phil Marchand (also of Fiftieth Parallel) the sound took a turn and began exploring more complex musical soundscapes.

After numerous well-received performances on the Gulf Island festival circuit Vessel expanded again to include bass guitarist Alec Swan and drummer Gerry Crevier, now becoming a five-piece.

This new rhythm section builds a groovy funk foundation under the intricate guitar work of Hinds and Marchand and the soulful urban-esque vocals of Jansz.

Island-infused Progressive Acoustic Music.

With a second summer of festival performances under their belt - this time travelling around in a 1986 camper van - Fiftieth Parallel again hit the studio recording their new CD 'Open Sky'. 

Playing almost entirely original material, Fiftieth Parallel have been forming their own unique style of progressive acoustic music: drawing inspiration from artists such as John Butler and the late Michael Hedges, and infusing it with the contagious West Coast vibe.

Despite being only a duo – Phil Marchand (acoustic guitar), Jonathan Hinds (acoustic guitar and percussion) – Fiftieth Parallel have made a name for themselves with their big natural sound.

Open Sky can be found along with 'Weapon Of The Future' (first full-length release) can be found at any Fiftieth Parallel show including as part of a package deal and at locations across Vancouver Island. Fiftieth Parallel are currently working with vocalist Ben O'Connor and have just released a 5 track EP which is also available at events.
