Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud GO tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks that have been previously submitted and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

"KILL, THE ICON!" is an exploration of cultural icons and iconoclasts, viewed through the lens of pop culture.

"Buddhist Monk" is an exploration of the self-immolation of Thich Quang Duc. Modern protests are often performative and derived for the aim of social clout. This song aims to tell the story of a protestor who put it all on the line.

Released in November 2021, Buddhist Monk was the debut single from KILL, THE ICON! It has received consistent airplay on Amazing Radio and Amazing Radio USA.

“Liebling Girl” is the tenth and final single to be released from our sophomore LP Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight. In that sense it’s a celebratory release for us. It sounds like it too! 

The track celebrates the joy of love and the strength and power of the divine feminine and the protective maternal energy that comes with it. It also showcases a more vulnerable and tender side of Geoff's songwriting.

Here's some insight into the track straight from Geoff...

“‘​​Liebling Girl’ tells the story of how I met my wife. I was moving into a share house with some mates and, at the last minute, one of those mates pulled out. We were left without a third housemate so we needed to quickly find someone else to take his spot. We put an ad in the local paper and had a number of replies. However, it was a young German girl on a working holiday who took the room and moved in. Little did I know that destiny’s plan was in motion and after a few months our relationship became more than just roommates. ‘Liebling Girl’ takes you through the journey from my perspective, from this person becoming my roommate to becoming my wife.”

Following recent appearances at End Of The Road and Twisterella Festival, Durham-based indie punks Fortitude Valley are pleased to reveal their new single ‘The Right Thing (Part 1)’ which is out now on all good digital service providers.

The track is the final single to be taken from their self-titled debut album set for digital release on 29th October 2021 via Fika Recordings—due to global vinyl pressing plant issues, physical preorders are suffering from delays and are still available to purchase on bandcamp now, with delivery date TBC.

Commenting on the track, vocalist Laura Kovic says: “'The Right Thing (Part I)' is about a one-sided attempt to salvage a dysfunctional relationship. It's a reflection on the ways you can sometimes feel lonelier in a couple than you would being on your own. It's one of our favourites to play live, and acts as a counterpoint to the final song on the album, which is the more sombre and introspective second part of the narrative.”

The band are also delighted to announce a run of UK support tour dates with Los Campesinos! in December 2021, with all shows now SOLD OUT (see below for listings).

Recording in two stints during 2019 and 2021 with a COVID sized hole in the middle, the band’s self-titled debut album was laid down between Soup Studios in London, Rocking Horse Recording Studio in Durham, and the members’ respective homes. The album was recorded, engineered and produced by Giles Barrett and Neil Combstock, mixed by Michael Collins, and mastered by Dave Williams.

Addressing themes of the passage of time, friendships and relationships growing apart, and feelings of insecurity, depression, and anxiety—as well as searching for love and salvation—the album is very much a product of our times.

Previously-released album singles ‘Wreck’, ‘Cassini’, ‘Baby, I’m Afraid’ and ‘All Hail The Great Destroyer’ have received praise from a rapidly growing list of press including HARD BEAT, Emerging Rock Bands, LOUD WOMEN, The Punk Site, Noizze, Austin Town Hall, Bring The Noise, For The Rabbits, Get In Her Ears, NARC. Magazine, Sweeping The Nation, Distorted Sound and more.

The tracks also made the band’s first splash at radio, landing on the X-Posure Playlist at Radio X, XS Manchester playlist, Idobi Anthm playlist, Amazing Radio playlist, KINK Indie playlist, and securing spins from Steve Lamacq and Marc Riley at BBC 6music, Mickey Bradley (of The Undertones) at BBC Ulster, BBC Introducing and local radio support, as well as a swathe of regional and specialist shows jumping on board.

Following the release of their debut EP ‘Scene Change’, Sydney-based duo Salarymen have dropped a new single ‘All in Vain’ and accompanying video via Scenic Drive Records, as premiered on Triple J Home & Hosed. 

‘All in Vain’ represents a new era for Salarymen, transitioning into a more sophisticated sound, while maintaining their signature harmonies and synth-driven rhythms. The song makes an instant impact with undeniably catchy melodies and bright, summery riffs, which build up to an emphatic ending and leave the listener wanting more. Placing Renee’s songwriting abilities front and centre, ‘All in Vain’ rounds out with a set of powerful, climbing vocal lines, which reach dizzying heights.

Co-vocalist and bassist Renee de la Motte explains the meaning behind the song:

“All in vain is a frank reflection on how much social media has crept into our lives, and placed pressure on us to look better and be present, all of the time. As a society, it has increased our narcissistic tendencies and driven us to compete with other people. What someone puts out on Instagram might look amazing, but in many cases they can be deeply insecure and unhappy with themselves. These platforms have become a constant force reminding people of what they lack, and this track is an uplifting reminder not to worry about what people think of you on the internet.
