The Way You Look Tonight (Jerôme Kern)

The 'Arbroath Smokie' is a delicious type of haddock famously created in the smoke houses of the Scottish town of Arbroath, Angus. My family come from there, and when my workplace recently suffered an explosive fire and resembled one of those smoke houses, a little guitar that had hung on a wall there as decoration only, (for it had the acoustics of a house brick!)was also smoked and toasted.

I couldn't resist cleaning all the muck off and re-stringing it just as an experiment, and like the Scottish haddock the little guitar had been transformed. Losing all it's varnish, the plastic scratch-plate melting off and the extreme heat treatment had done some kind of magic, for the guitar now truly sang, and although looking a total wreck is an absolute delight to play. 

Note:  This drastic tone improvement method is not recommended for fine Martin or Gibson guitars!!
