Bringing you funky times from across the years in hour one of this show, with some properly vintage stuff, nuggets from the 80s and 90s, and plenty of edits and reworks from people like The Reflex, Shaka Loves You, Young Pulse and Kon. I also managed to cram in several new bits from Mauro Vecchi, Hotmood, Ezirk & Discoholic Ken and Henry Navarro.
 
In hour 2 I’m honoured to hand over the controls to Evil Smarty, who brings us an excellent hour of disco goodness, stunning reworks and funky tunes, all expertly selected and mixed. Lee packs in hot tracks from some of today’s very best producers like Monsieur Van Pratt, Ian Ossia, Conan Liquid, Da Lukas and Nick Reach Up.
 
I’m absolutely thrilled to get Lee on the show, he’s a producer and DJ I’ve admired for several years and I’ve got loads of his tracks, and I’m happy to have struck up a friendship with him during lockdown. He’s showed me loads of support, has tuned into a lot of my livestreams, and is the man responsible for Funkier Radio moving to Stream101. So for all of this I’m massively grateful, and he’s turned in an absolute stormer of a guest mix too! Extended Dance Edit of Fay Larry's Band - Be My Lady.

Formed by drummer and vocalist "Fat" Larry James (August 2, 1949 - December 5, 1987)   The band's biggest hits were "Act Like You Know" (1982) (which later appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) and "Zoom", which reached number two in the UK Singles Charts.

Be My Lady was taken from the Album Breakin' Out which was released in 1982, the track was also released as a single the same year.

James died from a heart attack, at the age of 38, on December 5, 1987 and the band folded.

Six, count 'em, six! boogie bangers 

So you've just dropped 'Never Too Much' at the request of that pesky group of well meaning keen beens at the front of the dancefloor. Here are a plethora of tracks that you can follow it with. 'Love You So Much' is basically an ode to the aforementioned classic, with it's silky Vandross-eque vocals courtesy of XXX. Production-wise Ziggy Phunk has absolute nailed that classic 80s sound, more so than any producer we've heard recently. Away from the smoocher we get 'Alone Without You' which is more like a Fatback Band anthem, looped up percussion, big synth stabs, slap bass, digital horns and a sweet jittered female vocal to boot. All perfect for the Connoisseurs Corner at the Southport Weekender. rate: 9/10

Review:

Having been a DJ since the 1980s - first in his native Argentina, and now in London - Fabiolous Barker knows how to work a dancefloor. That knowledge came to the fore on his debut release for Funkfusion last year. Here, he transfers to '80s Child's Masterworks Music imprint and delivers a sextet of impressive re-edits. He kicks things off with the boogie-era disco bounce of "Back On Love", before slowing things down with the shuffling, P-funk style chug of "Sticky Party". There's a dash of piano-laden disco funk ("Funktime"), a tasty Whodini rework (the electro synths and rubbery bass of "Houdini"), and a tasteful Taana Gardner rework ("Heartbeat"). Oh, and a slice of harmonica-laden rare groove soulfulness ("Manhattan").
