At long last the return of Waterfords own Jay Ru, an elusive producer of much acclaim. This EP has been over two years in the making but it’s well worth the wait mixing slow-mo soul gems into clattering hip hop-esque house beats, Such A Long Long Time kicks things off with some classic low slung sampling and deep bass for early doors. Notching things up we have Flippin’ The Bird, some mid tempo funky nu-disco with razor sharp beats and drops before we take it down a tap with Movin’ On, a cowbell clattering blues-house hybrid thats a sure-fire set starter. Finally Sweet Hum brings us to a close with a peak time rubber b-lined collaboration with Hot Digits honcho Fingerman before we head into a monster remix section of the EP. Paul Bryan of Waterford takes Movin’ On into deeper territory with his stunning remix before Fingerman & Chewy Rubs take on Flippin’ The Bird. The guys flip the rolling groove on its head, teasing that latin drop for maximum effect later in the track. Finally another big Waterford producer Stephen Richards of Disco Daze fame delivers a slamming remix of Sweet Hum that makes full use of that awesome bassline!

Toby O’Connor has been doing the rounds on underground disco labels such as Plazir, Springbok and Mango Sounds for the past couple of years with solid disco groovers and now switches it up with a full blown EP of disco rump shakers on Fingerman’s Hot Digits Music imprint. Late Night Burner kicks things off with the mid tempo “Real Saxy” a slinky warm up gem that chugs along building the saxophone riffs up and cascading with funk filled guitar flecks. “Groovin’” steps it up with a rhodes filled boogie house banger with superb horn filled breakdowns before we head into “Back In ’95”, a hedonistic Kraak & Smaak style groove-fest with classy female vocal hooks and spiralling baseline. “Downtown” is a heads down jazzy house track with more infectious horn stabs and a relentless groove that won’t quit before the EP closer “Funk Machine” brings things down again for another mid tempo bunker that sounds like a lost Stevie Wonder instrumental. Finally Fingerman flips the script for his remix of “Back In ’95” transporting the track into a more nu-disco direction with slinky chord drops and wonky b-lines a-plenty.
