Oliver Hafenbauer is a quietly influential artist who, for many years, shaped not only his local Frankfurt scene but also the wider electronic underground through his work with the legendary Robert Johnson club. In 2019 he stepped away from his roles there and has made his own mark. He is an accomplished DJ who takes his expert selection of house, IDM, techno and electro all around Europe, and also runs his left-of-centre Die Orakel label where artists are free to serve up their most experimental sounds. 

This week he comes live and direct into your life with a timeless mix of club-ready beats that showcase exactly what he does so well. It's a balanced cross-section of robust four-four sounds that swerve fads and eschew any frills in favour of different textures and bass weights. Some are dark and heavy, others are more sleek and hypnotic, and the whole thing is held together with a sense of energy that makes the 60 minutes pass in an instant.

Hey Friends! Happy to share the recording of my closing set at my favorite campout gathering, Diane's Hunting Club. This campout is a place to stretch out, lose track of time, meditate on the many beautiful leaf fractals, share old favorites, new treasures and things that don't always fit for a dance floor set. I love these few days in the woods with friends, everyone contributing to the collective joy in their own way! For the image I included the fabulous sticker that April made for this year's gathering, and this wonderful poem that DHC regular Danielle wrote just for me. Until next year! xoSam

This was recorded on a farm at night in the forest among a small group of friends. This mix is just another example of what I've been doing for the better part of my life - sensing the room while winging it out of a "bag" of music to help express myself and experience the moment. I was told the next day that I (paraphrase) "soaked up the weekend and reflected it back out to us." That was one of the most flattering compliments I have ever received. A recording will never fully capture the moment but I hope you enjoy the music nonetheless.

Paul Fleetwood gained notoriety as co-founder & resident DJ of his events crew Humanaut and "club" Hot Mass (Pittsburgh, PA) alongside his involvement in DIY events throughout the country. Paul currently writes and produces music out of Denver, CO, and has recently found a voice through the operation of his record label Perimeter Junk.

As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. Orphic, the London based duo made up of Phonica's Kieran Jandu & Babak Faraji join us for the latest Friends & Family Mix. These new talents have been bubbling up in the East London Underground. They recently joined us for a banging in-store for the launch of their Shelter EP on E2-E8 Records, which explores the depths of techno. A four tracker which moves through deep, dubbed-out moments to big-room offerings and vibrant, sophisticated electronics, rounded off with a remix from Bunker and Clone affiliate Marco Shuttle. Their Friends & Family mix gives us a glimpse into their musical influences and gives a look into their record bags. We sat down with the Orphic duo and had a brief chat about the mix, their approach to DJing and their plans for 2023.

I haven't posted a live DJ set for a long time - so here's one from this summer's Rural Festival held in the mountains not far from Nagano in Japan. It was my 2nd year at the festival, and I had an amazing time playing from 2.30-5am, with my set starting in pitch black and ending with the sun emerging for the last moments of the set. Big shouts to all the crowd and of course the organisers for having me back!
