The next transmission from the Squirrels On Film universe is a very special digital only extended play from a producer who is as prolific as he is obscure to the wider world. Billy Bates aka Mr Saturday aka the half of Zonetech who isn't C.l.a.w.s. aka former goth punk synth punk in The Vanishing, is the kind of person who sends you 2 gigabytes of unreleased jamz every couple months & it's legit ALL KILLER. The decision to share some of this bounty with the headz was easy, the hard part was deciding which joints to drop first. For every five Billy-Bangers there are twenty more but we are overjoyed to unleash these five for the solo debut of one of our absolute favorite musicians & people, hardware live set party-rocker, Black Metal Techno Mystery Man, & Digital Dub Dad...

“Another Beautiful Day In The Apocalypse” kicks things off. A motorik mid-tempo floor banger, it's the sound of drunk-driving a go-cart down the autobahn in drag. Big blown-out drums, like whackingg trash cans in an empty warehouse, and a driving Moroder-esque groove but as if Giorgio had few too many. Then there's the broken oscillator guitar solo that goes on top of everything, creating dark punk disco that's unhinged & extraordinarily fun. Just as with the Zonetech EP from last year, the drum programing is unique & excellent here & throughout these five songs, it always recognizable as dance music, but avoids the cookie-cutter, bland & beige moves that we hear in far too much stuff out there.

“Sunsets Of Doom” is a distorted breakdance jam given a heavy dub treatment. Extreme exploding delays in all directions for that proper popper hit, huddled up way too close to the bass bin. If Mad Professor got a chance to dub out Mantronix for the rejected Escape From New York soundtrack, that's what we have here.

“I Don't Want To Go Outside” is lost 80s dancehall rhythm for the goth club. The drums could be straight off a Sly Dunbar Compass Point session. It's a slow pulsating groove that decidedly avoids the four on the floor for the first part of the song. Someone invited Kevin Shields to this session to rip out woozy clouds of distorted guitar noise over the beat & Goth-Digi-Dub was born. This track has been a favorite of the Squirrels Family for a long time & it's finally getting out into the world.

“Dancing As The World Burns” brings us to the disco. It's a full-on dance-floor ripper, but in the mold of Throbbing Gristles Hot On The Heals Of Love. This one is for the all disc jockeys who've been waiting patiently to get back to making the kids sweat with ecstatic love & abandon.

“One Day We Will Be Ok” stays at the club. It's a lysergic shuffler, acid house at its finest and funkiest. Layers of red-lined drum machines underscore the timeless squelch of Roland's silver bassline box, tabs on the tongues, butts shaking at the after-party, bring down the walls.

This very special release has been a long time coming & we think it's worth the wait. Take a trip into the mind of Billy Bates, you'll be glad you did.

We're truly pleased to welcome Kosmik to the GF series. He runs the acclaimed The Black Lodge in LA , a label and "global conspiracy" aimed at continued disruption that has quietly been bringing out some of the best music out there including the label head himself, R. Gamble, Elena Sizova, Daniel Holt, Sam de la Rosa, Sons of Traders, and many others. As a DJ, he is a selector to the core with roots in the early 90’s midwest electronic rave scene in Ohio, somewhere between Detroit and Chicago. From '99 until 2001, he co-founded the infamous Foundation Team/Trü Skül underground parties in NYC which focused primarily on bringing out artists from the Midwest. His vinyl-only selection is old and new gems from start to finish which opens with a powerful and important speech by the legendary Last Poets from Harlem, one with an important message. Connoisseurs of the genre will know that for a brief period in the 1980s, drum machines & synthesizers dominated the Sound Systems & Beer Gardens of Jamaica, & for some Dub Heads, this illustrious era represents the missing link between King Tubby & Basic Channel. Squirrels On Film is delighted to present this collection of Bates' 21st Century Versions & Rhythms that take inspiration from that golden era of Machine Dub. Over ten tracks Bates explores a wide world of warm bouncy sub-bass & cold sharp drum machine rhythms, swimming in echoes & splashes of digital reverb. Bates imbues these mixes with a vital spontaneity that pays homage to the Jamaican originators of this form, who never let the machines steal the human spirit from their work. LBD sounds are back with a new 12" from their LBDISSUES series. This time they have a track taken from a sought after 7" single by Eva Hurychova & Jan Neckar from former Czechoslovakia, originally released in 1984, professionally remastered and with additional reinterpretations & edits.

"To Chce Mit Svuj System" is a sleazy electro disco number with its unmistakable 80s sound, instantly memorable without being too in your face. Optimo's JD Twitch comes on board with his extended edit, that stays close to original but has upgraded it for current dancefloors. Up next is a remix by Slovakian producer Tasun (who you might remember for his futuristic ethno take on ORM edits 12") that takes the original ideas into more psychedelic territories, while still keeping things danceable.

And last but not least, a newly formed duo of Oliver Torr and LBD Sounds label owner Olin, now working under Torr & Rich moniker, are here with their debut work - a pitched down 80s disco reinterpretation of "To Chce Mit Svuj System".

Consisting neither of one lone woman, nor hailing from either the Eurasian country or the North American state, this Georgia is in fact comprised of two human males working out of China Town, N.Y.C., namely Brian Close and Justin Tripp. Together they form a creative partnership responsible for not just a slew of output upon such highly regarded imprints as Meakusma, Palto Flats and Emotional Response, but also for a kaleidoscopic variety of multimedia work with a whole host of clients, from the corporate to the counter cultural. With an all embracing, freeform and in some ways contradictory approach to production, their sound is at turns stimulating, terrifying, comforting and confounding. Separated from any visual representation, the audio on its own becomes a soundtrack for the listeners' own intense internal projection screen.

With 'Time', Georgia's vision is especially well realised as here, in collaboration with fellow intuitionists Firecracker Recordings, they release into this world an album which, with any luck, shall help you unlock your inner portals - should they need assistance in that regard anyway. Unquantisable polyrhythms knock against one another in an uncannily externalised, conflicting collage of half remembered dance ritual memories. Fragmented melodies, disembodied vocal snippets, a hint of ethnomusicality in places all give deep nods simultaneously to ancient experience and to post human intelligence, condensing past present and future into one eternal instant.

'Time' the album asks us: what happens when one removes ones expectations of where in time a piece of music or art must sit? And what of time itself as a construct, now that we have myriad ways of measuring it, even at the atomic level; but still its passing is completely relative according to the observer, and indeed may all be in our minds anyway? Equally, you can always just put it on - again, and again - empty your mind of such thoughts completely, and allow all of your particles to move around freely to this joyful noise... after all, that's the point, isn't it? We're gonna have to stop asking questions eventually.
