County Cork, Ireland may not be the first place that springs to mind when listing hotbeds of fresh, forward thinking soul talent, but six-piece outfit Shookrah are doing their very best to change that, putting their hometown firmly on the map. Their latest offering “Gerascophobia” hurls the listener into a technicolor plunge pool of sound, totally submerging the mind in a powerful, psychedelic haze. Slow powerful synth waves rock back and forth, whilst flurries of notes whizz by following invisible currents, changing directions at a moment’s notice before disappearing into the darkness. The track gradually overwhelms the senses, inducing a sense of blissful delirium as you drift down further from the surface. As the instruments overlap harmoniously, lead singer Senita’s vocals echo effortlessly throughout - poetically railing against society's never-ending quest for eternal youth, a theme to be further developed on the five-track EP Clichés of which this single is a taster.
