County Cork, Ireland may not be the first place that springs to mind when listing hotbeds of fresh, forward thinking soul talent, but six-piece outfit Shookrah are doing their very best to change that, putting their hometown firmly on the map. Their latest offering “Gerascophobia” hurls the listener into a technicolor plunge pool of sound, totally submerging the mind in a powerful, psychedelic haze. Slow powerful synth waves rock back and forth, whilst flurries of notes whizz by following invisible currents, changing directions at a moment’s notice before disappearing into the darkness. The track gradually overwhelms the senses, inducing a sense of blissful delirium as you drift down further from the surface. As the instruments overlap harmoniously, lead singer Senita’s vocals echo effortlessly throughout - poetically railing against society's never-ending quest for eternal youth, a theme to be further developed on the five-track EP Clichés of which this single is a taster.

Their sound sits somewhere between neo-soul and the emerging schools of R&B/Soul that define themselves as ‘Future Soul’. Influences include the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Solange, Thundercat, Anderson .Paak and The Internet. Advancing from accolade to accolade (awarded 'Best Irish Band of 2017' and '50 People to watch in 2018' by The Irish Times).
