The inspiration for "Shining Star" stems from Mishell Ivon and Vincent Kwok's shared love for the joyful and optimistic spirit of the 80s. Both artists grew up surrounded by the era’s uplifting melodies and danceable beats, and they wanted to capture that same energy in a song that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.

For Mishell Ivon, the song's message of self-confidence and resilience was central. "We wanted to write something that reminds people to embrace their inner light, no matter what life throws at them," she explains. "The 80s were a time when music was full of life, color, and fun – and that’s exactly the feeling we wanted to bring back with 'Shining Star.'"

Vincent Kwok's production approach was rooted in paying homage to the classic sounds of the era while giving them a modern twist. "The lush synths, groovy basslines, and catchy hooks of 80s music have always been a huge influence for me," he says. "With 'Shining Star,' we wanted to evoke that nostalgia, but also make it fresh for today’s listeners, blending old-school influences with new-school techniques."

It’s the year 1988 and the Summer Olympics are being held in Seoul, South Korea. The Goethe Institut is in charge of the German cultural contribution and, together with the Kunstdisco Seoul, creates a mix of architecture, theater, dance, performance and music.

The Stroer Bothers, Hans Peter and Ernst, are responsible for the musical curation and release of a limited 12” vinyl that has been unavailable for a while.
Now the rare Kustdisco Seoul Ouvertüre record has been reissued. The original recording tapes have been mixed and remastered once again in addition to brand new remixes, including ours.

It has been a year of rapid growth for neo-Boogie front runners Silver Linings. Following their triumphant debut LP (and literal expansion from duo to trio) band members Françoise D’Argent, Benny Badge and Lachlan Peavey have wasted no time, dazzling new audiences on their recent tour of Europe/UK and mixing it with the cream of Australia’s crop at Inner Varnika 2017. Forward-facing and free, “Don’t Make Tracks“ clocks them at new altitudes with a sound as classic as it is cutting-edge.

For many, “So Good To You” was a bolt from the blue, 2016’s answer to a brand of romantic R&B owned by Loose Ends in the 80s and Flyte Tyme in the 90s: sorely-missed and rarely done right since. For Boogie heads it was a fresh treat from a reliable source (producer Benny Badge being a seasoned supplier to the renaissance) whilst Melbourne locals dubbed it a ’scene record’, part of a small and affectionately named catalogue highlighting notable collaborations.

Fast forward one year and “Don’t Make Tracks” sounds like a band both on the rise and on the move. The group’s busy schedule has proved to be an aggressive catalyst for new material - the misty veneer of their ‘project’ days fanned away by an assured renavigation of some favourite themes. While undoubtedly Funk-driven, references to Electro, Jazz and World influences have plenty of breadth as the trio mess with vibes far beyond their vintage - yielding much wilder results in the process.

Standouts include album A-siders “Like Before” and “Searching”, which dip into the realms of Brit-Soul and Jazz-Funk (the later including a serious Incognito-style mid-track twist). Vocoders, drenching FX chains and the furious 128 bpm “It’s Not Me” [search for the accompanying video] carve out the reverse side - leaving just enough room for Françoise’s epic Whitney-esque performance on “Look The Other Way”, a fan favourite for some time now.
