The almighty DESOLAT return with a compilation that could kick any year into place thats for sure. The Düsseldorf based label have certainly set the pace for 15 by curating a wide range of acts for their VA series.

The release certainly covers some scope. Then again, what else would you expect from this widely praised and appreciated label? Yet it’s safe to safe that each of these tracks hold a hell of a lot of weight and certainly lead the way for most discerning dancefloors.

To comment and highlight some of the unmissables tracks from this release I would certainly have to start with Alexander Ivkovic’s ‘B70’. What a track indeed. Fast paced, deep, intelligent and impossible to ignore. ‘Believe In Something’ by Lewis Boardman is a classic deliverance of fine house music. ‘Octave’ by Santé is an impossible track to ignore without a doubt that could own any club. Then again, it’s hard to narrow anything down as they all a worth the money.

This label always manages to come up trumps. That’s why they are so highly praised around the world. They lead the way when it comes to making proper house and techno and they seem to do it with such ease, working with a trusted range of established and up and coming talent around. This is just more proof of that.

The X-Sampler comes as a 2×12“ package with eight tracks, plus a download code that gives the buyer those eight tracks in digital format, plus another six digital tracks. In keeping with tradition it features a combination of artists who have already graced Desolat before and artists who make their debut on the label.

Riva Starr – Raw Edits Vol 1

Renowned for his ability to bring creativity and flair to his wild remixes, edits and re-edits, Riva Starr is a hugely welcome new addition into the Saved fold. Bringing a special collection of new edits, the producer displays the kind of dexterity that has made him so impossible to pigeonhole over the last decade.

First up, Riva delivers a driving and energetic mashup of DJ ROLAND CLARK’s “The First Time” and Paul C & Paolo Martini’s “Take Some Time.” Frenetic percussion in the top end and futuristic FXs create a party-focused pace as the dubby atmospheres and pumping beats add the power and momentum. The ghetto-funk vocal adds another dimension to make this Riva’s own personal homage to the history of house music. The raw edit of “Chasing Autumns” by Taras Van De Voorde continues that exploration further, tapping into a unique mix of classic sounding house with rich piano chords and emotive strings; and a modern, raw sounding warehouse energy that burns and stomps away underneath.

Taking things into a much deeper hue, Riva with his colourful edit of Luca Morris’ “Play By Play.” Built around subtly shifting melodies, a deep, rolling bassline and tumbling drums, the track shuffles forward with bags of personality and charisma. Intoxicating and heady, this one will keep heads down whilst infiltrating the feet. Riva’s edit of Rino Cerrone & Flavio Diaz’s “Extraordinary Wiring” is a dizzying, head-spinning workout that swirls and shakes with an unsteadying disposition. Funky drums interplay with highly distorted synths and mechanical sounding basslines to create a sound that is at once playful, addictive and unstoppable.

Taras van de Voorde - Chasing Autumns (RIVA STARR RAW CUT) (128Kbps Edit)

After the big success with Brutus EP, the spanish trio Edu Imbernon & Los Suruba have team up together again for a new track on Suara. Cederron has an stunning driving rhythm combined with some skilfully melodic vocals ready to blow people's minds. The remixes come from two heavyweight artists like Richy Ahmed, part of the Hot Creations inner circle, and Lee Van Dowski. They come up with two very different remixes where they show their amazing production skills.

Ron Costa made a first label appearance back in 2013 with the dark groove and twisted vocals of ‘Berlidof’. The following year he was back, turning his remix talents to Paul Ritch’s ‘Pulse’. Today the Frenchman makes a welcome return with a brand new double-header - Goose / Erussel. 

Having had a global audience Dancin’ for the past twelve months Costa flies solo once again. Fresh from his excellent remix of Pig&Dan he delivers another brace of gripping techno tracks for SCI+TEC. 

The hypnotic Goose presents an almost asphyxiating groove that tightens throughout. One for the strobe-lit rooms, no doubt. Erussel on the flip is a different animal altogether. With its spacious beats and epic radiant rise, its a track that will have the dancer reaching for the celestial sphere.
