Welcome to New Orleans: A tribute to New Orleans Funk and Soul is the work of New Orleans native, DJ Personify. Raised in the Crescent City, the die-hard Hip-Hop fan learned early on that many of the samples he discovered originated in New Orleans. He soon became infatuated with the Funk and Soul music recorded there and has spent the better part of the last twenty years immersed in the culture of those records. Personify’s passion for New Orleans' music and culture extends to the present day and is manifested in this DJ mix masterpiece. Lovingly compiled, all of the artists featured on the mix are native to New Orleans with the exception of Hugo Montenegro who plays alongside Al Hirt (a New Orleans native) and The Headhunters, who are included here because of their work with Bill Summers (a life-long New Orleanian). All songs and samples used on this mix were recorded from vinyl sources. RÊVE PARISIEN features four new Rhys Chatham compositions that were performed live at Kassay's exhibition at Art: Concept in Paris in 2010, and loosely functions as an audio catalogue to the exhibition.

RÊVE PARISIEN contains compositions that were both performed live and used as a soundtrack through Kassay’s exhibition. These compositions mark a change in direction for Chatham, who has abandoned the trumpet style he developed in the nineties for a non-distorted, less effects-driven sound that compliments his minimalist compositions and his free jazz training. The LP is packaged in a stunning gatefold with an arced die-cut cover, which was designed by Jacob Kassay in collaboration with Frank Napolski.

In the unusually warm 3am air of a Parisian suburb, a house party is getting out of control. Police Nationale have been called - but no-one can get near. The air is thick with Hip-Hop filling the adjacent streets, acting like a force field. You can hear the faint licks of Aerosmith and the rising vocals of Bowie as far as the Champs Elysees. Is that DJ Kool Herc on the decks? Situated in the Capital of French Electro, the influence is audible, while Meth, Red, Jay-Z and even Mystikal get 16 bars in on the mic. Who knew The Beatles were this funky?
The cause for celebration? It’s the wrap up party for First Serve, an undercoverproject that has been two years in the making. First Serve is the brainchild of 2 &amp; 4 (aka Chokolate &amp; Khalid, producers/ DJ’s). After an instant meeting of minds they decided to embark on a musical adventure – a Hip Hop album played by musicians. All they needed was a couple of MC’s to help complete their vision. Enter NY based Jacob ‘Pop’ Life and Deen ‘D’ Whitter.Listen to the mixtape recorded at the party. It’s funky, it’s hip hop, it’s disco... and it’s a classic!
