The night keeps sending me postcards of old ghosts
They come back in color — sharper than they ought

I used to sleep with anchors stitched into my ribs
Weights of other people's measures — heavy as ships
Dreams delivered receipts for debts I never owed
They printed my reflection in margins I outgrew

I learned to match the metronome of someone else's praise
Till mornings were a ledger and nights were stained with haze

But the ledger folds; the ink won't always bind
I keep the pages closed to see what I might find

I untie anchors at dawn and let the harbor breathe
Not to go forever — just to learn what keeps me seaborne
I am not exile or surrender; I am a hand on my own sleeve
I set a course for healing — not for leaving forevermore

I traded clocks for compasses, traded scores for sails
Recalibrated pulses that once beat to broken scales
The old machine of praise still clicks beneath the floor
I hear it in my sleep but I no longer own the door

No fury in the severing — just a patient, careful cut
A seam rethreaded gently so the wound does not erupt

I will fold the maps you pressed into my palm
Keep one corner for the future: a slow, tentative psalm
I might light a flare one day, send a soft, careful call
But not to tether my spine — only to say I learned to stand tall

This anchorless dawn is mine to meet alone
I steer from memory, but I hold the helm my own
If time allows a bridge, I’ll send my voice across the foam
Until then I learn the harborless route back toward home

The clock still whispers, the night still keeps its pace
But I wake with pockets empty — and a steadier place
