French pianist / composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch returns with the stunning 'Époques', her sophomore album for FatCat's pioneering 130701 imprint. Witnessing an increased assurance and dynamism in both Emilie's playing and composing, 'Époques' marks a big step forward for the London-based artist. A bold and adventurous album that alternates between passages of emotive, sinuous solo piano; stirring compositions for viola and cello and some beautifully sprawling electronics, it has been masterfully pieced together to further reveal a unique and intelligent sense of artistry, and a composer who really does deserve your full attention. 

'Époques' is a deep, forceful, at times difficult, listen - a true shifting through the various registers of emotion, from dark to light. Whilst fans of artists like Max Richter, Dustin O'Halloran and Jóhann's Jóhannsson ought to surely find much to love in this album, and parallels may be found to a progressive new breed of female peers like Claire M Singer, Lucy Railton and labelmate Resina, it is a record that genuinely sees its maker finding her own space, fully formed and conclusively set aside from peers and influences. No mere background listen, 'Époques' is a proper journey of an album – a  record to immerse yourself into; that stands up to and rewards repeat listening, revealing itself more and more over time.

The marsh land areas of western Jutland in Denmark can be flat and non-distinct to the visitor who only takes a quick glance at it. But when you are born and raised in those parts, and when you travel away to live, work, raise families, play music, anything to escape the rainy flatlands, you think about that landscape differently. On Marsh Drones, the weirdness of this landscape is reimagined in a kind of giddy, absentminded way, as though they try to recall not only the broad topographical scheme of the land (cultivated, industrialized, farmed, soggy with seawater, a breach of the ditches that pours cold north sea water inland, the farms and waterways overflowing), but only the detailed, grainy realness of sediments and layers of soil, of the hazy and salty light (Saltlys) that wraps the landscape in a kind of palpable inertia.

Many of the ideas on the 'Marsh Drones' emerged from field recordings from the area around the Tønder marshlands recorded by various members of the band. They provided a backdrop to the loops and long guitar session of guitar, bass, synthesizers, and samples that were slowly mangled and rearranged into counterpointing and fugue-like melodies, insistent on repetition while odd atmospheres of distant drones and noise works to modify and shift the composition into new shapes. The music is minimal, restrained, but rich in detail like the landscape it attempts to resonate with. There are remnants of folk music, melodies that are almost recognizable, but dub music and something distinctly digital intersects itself into the woodwork and authenticity.

“01Duo” is working on live audio performances, audiovisuals, installations, game sound design and performance arts. “01Duo” was formed in Tehran, Iran, 2018 by two sound artists Farbod Maeen and Deniz Tafaghodi. 

Farbod Maeen Born in 1985.02.11, Tehran, Iran. Graduated in Power and electricity engineering and interior design architecture. Started his career in music as a Jazz and Blues guitar player with Bahman Nasri in 2001, Composing Music and sound designing for dance performances, theaters, films , games since 2009.

Deniz Tafaghodi Born in 26.08.1997, Tehran, Iran. Studied B.A in Music, Azad Art and Architectures University of Tehran. She started playing the piano since 2003 and composing music and Sound designing for theater, contemporary dance , games, performance arts since 2012.

This quadraphonic piece for two computers and a turntable is made by mixing the pure and processed sounds of locked grooves (the inner groove on a vinyl record in the form of a closed loop, which traps the tonearm and needle, preventing it from entering the label area).
These loops are not exactly the same each time they are played, because of some condition changes(grooves damage, dust,cartridges,needles,etc.)
So this piece will change in each performance, even though it has a specific music sheet in ABAَ form.
The poly-rhythmic part turns into an ambient space, then back to the variations of the first part.
