A pillar of the West Coast and American dance music scenes, Galen perfected his skills in the ’90s on long and eclectic DJ sets at renegade & warehouse parties.

First among them: his own Sunset Sound System events, a DIY happening in which he played adventurous sets every Sunday in a park framed by the setting sun, the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge.

With some friends in common, we’ve been meaning to interview Galen for years, and took the opportunity presented by the release of his new Magic Bus EP, out May 9 on Justin Martin’s What To Do label. We’re honored to share this new cover mix as well, which Galen made exclusively for 5 Mag.

Sneak's House Party Friday the 13th - June 2025

Hey everyone! Today, we have a special set by your favorite House as Fuck DJ and producer, Matthew Brian! Matt has had one of the longest Friday night residencies at the Airconditioned Lounge (aka AC Lounge) where he founded House Music Fridays, and has worked alongside some of the top DJs and producers such as Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon, and DJ Sneak. You can find some of his production on Beatport, Traxsource, and Bandcamp with collaborations on Kolour Recordings, Tabby Traxx, and Late Night Jackin’. This mix was recorded live at Souleil’s debut party at The Hole in San Diego with headliner DJ Heather on June 22, 2025. Matt did an awesome job at closing the party after DJ Heather’s set. Ben Annand set off Camp DayFunk 2025 with a heady, deep, and impeccably crafted dance floor-first set that captured the tone for the entire weekend. From the first beat, he pulled the crowd into a sound that felt both grounded and expansive, layering warm, textured elements with basslines that built steadily without ever rushing the moment. There was a patience to his flow, a quiet confidence that allowed dancers to lose themselves in the space between the kick and the melody. Equal parts meditative and body-moving, Ben’s set honored the spirit of the forest and the promise of the dance floor, weaving a sonic tapestry that felt ancient and new at once. It was the perfect invocation, a chapter that reminded everyone why we gather together in the first place.
